It doesn't deliver million £ lifestyles, but it does deliver better ones. No governments deliver prosperous lifestyles. Better lifestyles have been achieved by people despite their governments.

Politicians do not help people prosper the best they can do is keep out of the way. However politicians can do economic harm through stupidity (Liz Truss) or ideology.

You think governments do a really good job? You think their growing involvement in more and more aspects of our lives is a useful thing? You think they can spend our money better than we can?

Life was far simpler in the EU. And nobody treats you worse than your own.

When I were a boy, there was the Parish Council, County Council and the UK Government that dictated what was allowed. Then we added the failed Regional Assemblies and the EU Parliament. Doubtless there were other intermediaries that put in their tuppence worth. Each layer is a cost to the taxpayer somewhere; all moving in the same direction but often against the actual will of the public. Hence we got Brexit.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Ah yes the good ole days when you could just jump on a plane and they barely looked at your EU passport and all for the price of, well billions and the loss of our national sovereignty. It was such a bargain can't think why we left.

Time will tell. Certainly not possible to claim it's worked out financially just yet. As for sovereignty, sure, you're on firmer ground there. But at what cost. It will be interesting to see how this all develops.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

I agree that comparisons need to be made. It will be a whole lot of comparisons though, within the financial side of Brexit.

Of course people create their own lifestyles in a free and democratic country. Their government though creates the environment in which people can flourish.

Exactly. A major general benefit of Brexit is less government. Totally wrong. A major disadvantage of Brexit will be the costs of more government. Not the direct costs of parliament, but the hidden costs of having to do all the things ourselves that were previously done by the EU. Costs which are wished away by the Brexiteers and, whilst at the moment difficult to quantify, are nonetheless very real and logically well in excess of our previous EU contributions.
