I agree with the above, but it takes a special type of person to practice what they preach when the personal cost is so high. These people are rare I also agree on luck – hence my caveat at the end, but at least give yourself the best chance in life by doing as much as you can, at least then all you can curse is your own rotten luck. Also, on luck – it's mainly how you respond to things out of your control that make you, not the the things themselves. Bad s*** is always going to happen. In other words don't use Brexit as a cure all, or if you're a remainer, a reason for despair, look at yourself.
The political section of Hol is a release valve. Some of us get to spend more time on it than others. When I was doing important stuff I didn't have time to be chewing the cud on here anything like as much. Some of us have had more luck than others, some are retired or just find they have more time.....Personally I'm just hanging around waiting for the heart attack....Hopefully it's a long wait.....Hopefully I get to last longer than Nick and Kermit. That's the main thing....a fondness for pure unfettered pettiness.

What it tells me in general is that the groundswell that became attached to the Brexit movement in 2016 is continuing on at pace. Farage in his affluent pad in Chelsea, fresh from his latest business class trip to the States, has become the ultimate supporter of the common man, just like billionaire Donald Trump. He rails against the establishment and the elites. Some people genuinely believe that with a vote for Brexit, and now a vote for the brexit party, they are emulating "V" from "V for Vendetta" and becoming some kind of anti-elitist crusader who will tear down the fabric of this unfair society which caters to elites only and then eagerly donning their guy fawkes mask, will march on parliament to observe it being blown up. Many, many people in England are unhappy with their lot in life. Rightly or wrongly Brexit became their calling card and EU membership was the dragon which must be slain, to return to the glory of bygone times when the British Empire imperiously ruled. Foreigners became the problem which has to be solved, which if solved, would usher in a new dawn in Britain and make everyone native born's life better, happier, healthier and richer. Brexit has become the silver bullet to solve all of life's problems. Dont get me wrong, I know there are huge issues with inequality and poverty, and that the amount of people who want to migrate to the UK definitely causes issues. In the simple mind, Brexit will fix all of these issues, and once we finally reach the promised land of non EU membership, everything will be so much better, cleaner, and nicer. It's a good post, if a caricature of most Brexiteers. I don't think most view Brexit as a cure all or any kind of panacea. It's just better to be an independent country instead of being part of a superstate that views itself as a competitor to the remaining anglosphere.....talk of EU armies and the like. We have NATO.....I see how the undemocratic EU is going and it doesn't get my vote.

They think they are owed something better, and in many cases they are. Plenty of them get up every morning and trudge off to a job they hate and then trudge home. The difference between the Scottish and the English in the 2016 vote is that the Scottish didnt elevate leaving the EU to the lofty heights that people like Farage did and still does, who seem to say that once we have left the EU everyone's worries and problems will disappear overnight. Once we are no longer a member of the EU, in Farage's mindseye, every fountain in every city center in England will flow with champagne. Unemployment will come down to 0%, everyone will instantly get richer, healthier and happier. Each pavement will be relaid with gold, and beautiful maidens will adorn the gold streets singing and playing lutes.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

This whisks me back to that heady night in 2016. You are hitting the nail on the head here, and showing precisely why a 2nd referendum is inevitable. Yes voting for Faragism is a vote for brexit, clue is in the party name. The only problem is that doesn’t move the issue along at all as the last 3 years have been spent trying to pick a particular type of Brexit, and unilaterally failing to do so. The brexit party will win big tomorrow, but it makes no difference to anything. Do you really believe that? Or are you not thinking past the end of your nose? Lets say that there's a 2nd referendum and that the remain vote wins...BUT we have a tranch of 40 or so BREXIT MEP's in place...that's going to cause mayhem for the EU. It'll just throw a massive spanner in the EU bureaucratic system...but then as you see it, teh vote tomorrow will not make any difference...but then i guess its hard to have your finger on the pulse from way over there..
