They can say what they like but it isn't going to make that much difference. It's not as though the Police have the cells or numbers to do anything about it anyway. It's going to be like an ineffective teacher standing in front of a misbehaving class telling them to be quiet. 'Be quiet, or I'll wag my finger and tell you to be quiet again'. The reality has always been that if you want to properly suppress something you have to repress it.....and the Police aren't set up for that....Well at the moment. Edited by Stirlingsays (05 Apr 2020 1.32pm) If the Police take a more robust approach they will no doubt be accused of "Police brutality" by Civil Liberties groups. I do get the impression that there are many who believe that if they go to a park, or seafront as a household and adhere to social-distancing to their destination whilst they are there and on their return home they are not blameworthy. The idea that you can control large populations via guidance is misguided.....not that I agree with the guidance anyway. You have Police vans telling people they can't sunbathe in the park but they can exercise. Expecting that level of control is almost ludicrous and out of a Monty Python sketch. 'Er excuse me, have you stopped to lie on the grass? Don't you know that you should be exercising? And next time bring a tape measure'. Yes it is flawed but if they can’t use these areas responsibly then they go get closed and they go without and will have to get the minimum exercise outdoors on the pavement or empty roadside.

Maajid Nawaz on LBC has brought in some interesting points in that he wants to see and hear psychologists and other representatives telling us about expected consequences and deaths from lockdown instead of just medical experts telling us about Coronavirus deaths. My view has always been that’s gotta to come soon. He also talked about liberties that I don’t agree with fully in the current circumstances.

Suspect there is also a Tom Sawyer aspect to this - had the government instructed everyone to go to the park every day there would be thousands refusing.

While Police are running around with loud speakers this must be a field day in other criminal areas.

Liberty needs to be wound back or we are facing a real s*** show. It's nice to agree with you for this is spot on. Some things are bigger than personal liberty and this is one. Until it's over we need to climb off our high horses and do what's right for the benefit of everyone. Yesterday people were given the OK to drive for up to 5 mins from home to get to somewhere to take their exercise. Laying down sunbathing isn't exercise. If you need to drive to a park to find some space then do so. I do though wonder about people just walking, or worse jogging, 2 metres behind each other as they will soon be in the space vacated by the person in front. 2 metres and no movement makes sense but when moving try to make an appropriate allowance for your speed. We are lucky here as we can find footpaths and other spaces where in the early evening there is only the occasional dog walker. In a city more care and thought is needed. So do take care.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The younger middle classes sunbathing and meeting for drinks in the park won’t be sitting around on the pavement. There will always be some who think they’re above all this or won’t think or plan when to go out for a walk or just think fvck it I’m going to where I know it’s going to be an issue or problem but so what. If the mixing can be limited, and the figures look like it has been limited, then it is working to an extent.

A balance of them or just those who support the governmental view? A balance. That’s his succinct viewpoint. There’s been some logical callers and some very bizarre ones. The best was a doctor saying everyone was going to die because most people in this country have underlying health conditions. She couldn’t counter the presenter’s points or answer his questions and just made her side of the argument less credible. ‘You aren’t even a medical spokesperson and won’t ever be’ was the best put down before putting the phone down, even though she’s probably risking her own health at work.

I think by next winter even though the government has tried its best to stop it a lot of us would have caught this and become immune..the majority won't even know they have had it...That's what happens with this kind of thing...Flus don't carry on and on. The testing kits will help a lot of us....though they must be accurate.

The same could be said if one take's daily exercise which is currently permitted or when one shops in supermarkets and other food outlets. For avoidance of doubt, I totally understand the rationale behind social-distancing and preventing the transmission of the virus but it's a question of balance. Edited by Willo (05 Apr 2020 1.34pm) All shopping that comes in my front door gets wiped with a anti bac wipe (I know it isnt bacteria but not many anti viral ones around) fresh stuff all comes ready bagged potatoes mushrooms etc. As still working I go in small stores early morning so less crowded. Minimum effort to wipe over packaging. Bags go in landfill and gloves thrown along with hands washed. Just doing that should limit the risk even a small amount.
