And not something that can simplistically be attributed to immigration/immigrants as if that is a cause, just like so many other social and economic ills that the duplicitous ones encourage people to blame immigrants and immigration for...duplicitous/scapegoating/divide and rule...down through the ages. Not aware there were EU immigrants coming here in the 1920's.BBC History Magazine website,November 2013: "There were other sides to Armistice Day. Postwar Britain was not a “land fit for heroes”. It was a land of unemployment, poor housing and unrecognised pension claims. Some ex-servicemen grew tired of perpetual homage to the dead veteran when surviving ones were receiving such little help. In 1921 disaffected former soldiers disturbed the commemorations at the Cenotaph. And this was no one-off: unemployed ex-servicemen were to demonstrate at armistice ceremonies throughout the 1920s. The Ex-Officers’ Association even began referring to Armistice Day as ‘Obligation Day’, when people had a ‘Duty of Remembrance’ to ex-servicemen in need."
Of course immigration has an impact on housing and jobs. Are you implying that people were wrong to protest in the past? Who is to say that? If people think immigration it is too high....And statistically is it far higher than at any period of time in this country's history then that is their valid point of view. Who are you to say that means UKIP are blaming immigrants themselves....I'm sure there are extremists jumping on the bandwagon just like the militants did with Labour but it isn't the party message. I'm a UKIP suppoerter and I've made it bloody clear on here that an immigrant seeks to improve their life and no one can blame them for it. Yet here again you sport the same old colours connecting protest again the numbers as a protest again actual immigrants. Lets say it once again shall we. UKIP will not stop immigrants coming into the UK it will only reduce the numbers. People have a right to vote for and voice which kind of country they wish to live in.....Just as you do. However it's scary just how often opponents are willing to misrepresent the message.

Apparently you can label Nick but you can't back it up. Perhaps you shouldn't throw mud if you can't make it stick. Deliberate misrepresentation.....Certainly of the party message. Edited by Stirlingsays (18 Feb 2015 12.58am)

I think that one of the reasons that UKIP has risen so quickly is in response to the finger pointing and name calling that certain elements of the left in general have promoted. For decades they closed down debate and name called...Any talk about immigration would be met with accusations of racism or bigotry...Even in this thread we have seen the echos of that response...In my eyes all those people deserve UKIP.....In a sense they played a part in its popularity. Unfortunately, you have completely missed the point I was making and gone into "attack is the best form of defence,I've beeen misrepresented" mode. I was demonising our consistently "duplicitous/scape goating/divide and rule" leaders generally over the past 100 years plus (in fact much much longer than that). No blame attributed to the general populace in my post.My post was largely about treatment of ex-services personnel.A prior poster had linked that with treatment of immigrants.Another with duplicitous leaders.I was simply pointing out that treatment of ex-service personnel has been naff for many decades and so current treatment of them should be seen in that context and not as something that has arisen recently and results from immigrants being allocated resources that were it not for their presence would be allocated to ex-service personnel.Ex-service personnel have been getting shafted in a land with housing problems and unemployment issues as long ago as the 1920's,when plainly large-scale immigration was not taking place Edited by legaleagle (18 Feb 2015 9.11am)

I vote UKIP and support UKIP but have to agree with Nick on one thing. I've met quite a few fellow UKIP voters who do come out with racist comments (which I don't agree with). I'm confident they aren't representative of the average UKIP voter though and I also don't believe their racism is representative of the party's ethics (you can call me naive for this if you like, but it's my opinion). I don't suppose everyone who votes for the same party a) all hold the same beliefs as everyone else who votes for that party (be it Green, UKIP, Labour, Monster Raving Loony, etc) and b) necessarily agrees with all the policies that the party claims to stand for. By the same score, I've heard racism from people who aren't UKIP voters as well. I wouldn't assume all UKIP voters are racists, or that all racists are UKIP voters because I don't like making big sweeping generalisations about groups of people........

UKIP have released a press statement saying they are the only UK party that will clamp down on tax dodgers. Fair enough. That's good. However, they also very recently voted against a bill in the European parliament that would clamp down on tax dodgers!
