I can see why the referee in 'Real time' never deemed the incident a foul, but I can also see why the VAR intervened and sent him to the monitor.

I saw the 1st half and then last 10mins of the 2nd half. We seemed to have regressed back into Roy's team from his 1st stint here. It's very much lacklustre and would be even worse without Eze (though he didn't have a great game last night). Our midfield is again sadly lacking. Lerma is ok, but we really need another dynamic central midfielder to help make things happen, as Eze can get man marked (like last night with Onana). Calvert-Lewins Red card was a tad harsh, though he did go in studs up, even though there was seemingly minimal contact. Andersen was lucky not to give away a penalty, as he had a proper hold of Beto's shirt. There needs to be an injection of new faces and ideas. I am not confident either will happen.

Everton are appealing Calvert-Lewin's red card. I can understand why, but, it was VAR that made the decision & i.m not sure the FA will overturn it, maybe reduce the 3 matches to say 2.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

It was VAR who advised the referee to review the incident on the monitor but it was the referee who made the ultimate decision to issue a Red.

Last night could be summarised in one sentence: Without Ayew and Olise WE ARE RUBBISH and painful to watch. More explicitly. Solutions?

Ok mr pedant, yes it was var advising the ref to review it, my point being it was var who instigated it & im not sure the FA will overturn it because it was a var induced decision albeit the match official having the final action of producing the card.

Let Franca attack, god knows we need some joy of intent, All Roy seems to do(imo) is suck the flair & skill out of players in his 10 men behind the ball & defend philosophy. No, let him attack, JPM might benefit from it. I do, however, agree with you that would like to see him in Eze's position. I'm not asking him to be Rio Ferdinand, but a PL player needs some understanding of his responsibilities in the defensive unit. His needs some work. (Wholly understandable from a 19 yr old attacker, and maybe a reason RH hasn't picked him much)

Whether it is the on-field referee who makes a decision or the VAR is of no consequence to the FA in their decision making process as part of an Appeal.
