The ref is of course always under pressure from the crowd, and you could feel it piling on top of him, but that should not affect VAR, or does it? The commentators, including at the game, 'why is this necessary?' 'It's an obvious penalty' - Dion Dublin and others, all wrong. I feel for the players after all that effort, they did not deserve to lose to a clearly wrong decision. VAR should have gone to specsavers, judgements no better than referees, do we want games to be 105 minutes long after all this cobblers I don't think so.

There is an average of less than 3 goals scored per game. The idea that Palace should be so much better than the better funded opposition away from home that we can easily overcome terrible decisions like that is delusional. The ref done us. Short and simple. Mistake or ego or bent. bent ! becomes more and more obvious every week.....VAR is just a tool to help useless bent referees get the decisions they want

What are the exact rules on penalties? Secondly what is the rule on attackers entering the penalty area The rules are the same as they have always been ,If in the opinion of the referee a foul is committed its a penalty Whats changed is the protocols (I posted a link on page 12) which sees VAR interfering with that decision . I think VAR have overstepped the mark with encroachment , they now say unless the player encroaching has in THEIR opinion an effect on the outcome of the kick they will let it go .

Don't worry about the penalty decision. The problem is that Palace don't match the ambition of Villa. They had strength in depth on the bench, we have very little. Wilf left, Olise injured, and Ayew went off. Our response is to bring on Mateta, put Schlupp wide right and leave Rak-Sakhi on the bench. The Brazilian wonder kid has not even appeared yet. Joel got rinsed again at right back. We have needed a replacement since AWB left, but we spent £20m on a reserve keeper instead. Yes we will stay up - Luton and Sheff U are very poor. Will we finish higher than 12th place - almost certainly not.

It might have escaped your notice but they’re a slightly bigger club than us in every way. I think their ambitions might be a little higher than us. Former league winners, European champions with a ground capacity of 43,000 and all that Edited by monkey (17 Sep 2023 5.31pm)

Regarding Silurian's post.... There's a lot to be said for this, you old dinosaur! Given that matches that start at 3 p.m. on a Saturday are just entering injury time when the classified results used to be read out by James Alexander Gordon (I'm an old dinosaur too), there's an obvious advantage to clubs with the biggest squads, i.e. nine quality subs as opposed to five of those just making up the numbers. Yet another way to favour the clubs who already have the most going for them. Edited by Elwissthebest (17 Sep 2023 5.47pm)

Don't know why folk are complaining about VAR. VAR correctly told the ref to take another look at the penalty presumably because they thought the decision was wrong or at worst questionable. As I understand it the ref has the final say, and that is why the ref is shown the replay.

I agree with most of this except VAR going to spec savers. I believe VAR thought decision was wrong. Unfortunately England is an arrogant t*** and is superior to those in VAR. Until we adopt the RU approach football is f***ed
