There is in most respects plenty of time for the club to approach Roy, but considering what he has pulled off here , surely if the club really wanted him it would already be in his lap to decide whether he takes it or not.
Leading up to the Notts, match and even after usually calm Roy , seemed a little out of character, in so much as he was a little tetchy around the whole situation.
Whatever happens here is totally in the hands of the club, but one things for sure Roy has done his interview three times over, if the club want him let the man know now.

There’s a strong rumour doing the rounds that McCarthy is to be the new manager.
I can’t see it, but the club appear to have a lot of faith in him and his presence does complicate the situation .
If he’s ambitious I can’t see him wanting to return to junior football at the club and he’s reputedly turned down lower league opportunities in the past to remain at Palace.
I also feel that Roy wouldn’t take kindly to a reversal of roles with him assisting McCarthy if that was mooted.
Roy’s a hands on manager and would ( quite rightly in my view) want to call the shots.

This scenario will not become a reality.

Willo, why do you think that.

I’m not behind the scenes and have no visibility of McCarthy as a coach or manager.
My gut feel is that it would be a huge gamble giving his lack of experience having not managed at any senior level.
You wouldn’t want the selection to be based largely on the fact that he’s close to Freedman and Parish, but perhaps I’m being uncharitable and it’s not something that’s seriously being contemplated even though the intention may be to keep him involved in the first team set up.
Does beg the question how a new manager (if not Roy) would view this involvement though?

Parish is waiting on Gareth Southgate.

This is a scenario I can see happening..!!

Euros are next summer - Gareth’s last hit of winning something- either way stepping aside to return to club management and coming home to Palace..!!

Meantime a final season long swan song for Roy and Ray - they both deserve that..!!

I do not envisage many truly believing that :

1. Mr Hodgson will receive a 2 year contract.
2. After all his years in management he will be willing to be an Assistant.

Palace ,must go for experience, the league demands it, and Palaces standing in this league demands it. The tactical twists and turns at this level are never ending and risking a comparative novice , is really not worth that risk.
If you take all things into account we are very close to our potential, stepping back from that is likely to be disaster. The club know this, it’s why they sacked Viera, more experience than Mc Carthy, but still a novice in management, .Someone has already said this, I repeat it because it is true. We wouldn’t bring in an Under 18/21s manager from outside ,so why even consider it .

No ITK but if Steve Cooper were interested I'd give it to him. There was some clickbait a couple of weeks ago saying he wasn't happy at Forest and had had a couple of exploratory interviews. For once, I hope clickbait is right

I think Paddy has great potential and could learn as assistant coach?

Whilst the club make up their minds what they want to do, think we can be safe in the knowledge that no other club will step in and tempt Roy to be their manager.

By dilly-dallying, the club has put Roy and his trusty lieutenants in a difficult and embarrassing position.

Steve P should clarify whether he would like them to stay without delay.

All this sitting on the fence is poor stewardship of the club at a time when there is much work to be done in the close season.

The sooner we have a statement of intent, the better.
