Mateta, Ayew, Schlupp. Mitchell, Clyne, Tomkins. 6 of our starters wouldn’t get a run out for any other team in the division.

I'm sure it's all been said already, but our performance today was truly one of the worst I have ever seen by a Palace side. How on earth did we get a point? I know we had some key players missing, but Vieira has to be in danger of getting the sack after that. It smacked of a manager who has lost the dressing room.

We didn't learn anything new about Mateta today. His only strength is getting shots away quickly in the penalty area, but we get to the area so rarely this strength is largely negated. This is why Vieira has often left both out.

Ironic that we look more and more like a final season Hodgson team with each passing game - low possession stats, few chances, backs to the wall defending, hoping for a lucky break. Last season was more like fantasy football whereby the loanee comes good and actually shows up the dross already at the club on permanent contracts. I was only saying the same thing to my friends alongside me at the game today - it's like watching Palace in Hodgson's final season with us. Dire. The thing that really struck me today is just how poor our passing is. No wonder we score so few goals. So many of our advances toward the opposition penalty area peter out with misplaced passes. For a Premier League side this is just not good enough.

On a similar note, I remarked to my crowd how BHA have some really good players, a cohesive unit and just looked like a really well drilled, good professional football team. We looked the complete opposite. Little quality, no composure on ball, no work rate, no real plan for the ball (tactics) and no real identity. Today feels like a papering over the cracks. There’s sincere change needed otherwise our luck will run out as will our PL status.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The lack of energy is the most worrying thing. No urgency, no tactics, no leadership. Firmly in the Vieira out camp now. As he’s the head of what appears to be a very poor coaching setup -

According to MoTD our starting XI had 5 goals between them all season. Awful

Vieira has learnt nothing from his time at Lille. He lost his job there because he had no team identity and no plan B. We have needed a right back since AWB left. He left in 2019. We have 1 out and out left back in Mitchell. He has no true competition and unfortunately is bang average. We bought Richards and only ended up playing him when Anderson and Tomkins were out. We seem to have zero knowledge of the transfer market. La Liga teams like Valencia and Villareal have financial issues and other teams recognise this but never us. We should have approached Danjuma on the 1st Jan not when he was having a medical at Everton. Exactly the same with Semenyo. Year after year we are so slow to buying players. We bought Doucoure and thought we were the smartest club in the world. Our under 21 and under 18's teams are now up there with the best in the country and yet we have ZERO players ready and knocking on the 1st team door. We loan out 21 year old to Bromley.

A little perspective. Since Christmas Day in all competitions Brighton's record has been 6-1-1 with the only loss being a 2-4 defeat to Arsenal. In those 8 matches they scored 22 goals and gave up 10. [Remove the two outlier games, Arsenal and Middlesborough, and they are 5-1-0 while scoring 15 goals and yielding 6.] They are a far superior club at the moment – grating, but there it is. No Zaha, no Andersen, no Player-of-the-Month Richards, and two brand-new midfielders... Let's count our blessings, improve our fitness, look for a striker in summer, and COYP.
Improve our fitness?? It’s February. Fitness work should have been done in pre-season or the 4 week WC we just had. The stats regarding our sprints and distance covered are horrifying and blame for that sits entirely with PV. I can’t see vieira lasting the season. We are sleep walking into the championship with the same starting XI, same formation and same boring game plan. We only got a point today thanks to an awful gk error and a lot of luck.

I've lost confidence in Patrick and Oisin, they appear to be tactically naive. A fluid Brighton made us look shoite.

As he’s the head of what appears to be a very poor coaching setup - Same for me. I watch other matches, and see teams, even crap teams, giving 100%, tons of energy and high work rate. Bournemouth are obviously total crap, but they gave it their all today against Newcastle, and the crowd was loudly behind their efforts. Then I watch us, players walking and jogging for 90 minutes. Giving 100% effort should be the bare minimum requirement of the players. Ok, maybe some matches we may be flat, but not every match, all season long. Whatever Vieira is selling, the players are not buying it. They all look passive, scared, and powderpuff, even playing at home against our main rival. In terms of tactics and motivation, PV doesn't have it. Or if he does, he better start showing it, or we'll have a new manager by April.
