I noticed some Senegal supporters with their faces painted white. Edited by Willo (29 Nov 2022 6.32pm) For clarity, here's what 30 seconds research can tell you [Link] So basically they are wearing white paint for cultural reasons. If England supporters wore black face paint there is nothing in our culture to justify it other than racist tropes and the black and white minstrels. It's like Hindus wearing a symbol that looks like a swastika or a white Christian wearing a swastika. I think also it's widely recognised that racism is largely defined as an attack on a race of people that are a minority in a society, hence why no one is ever accused of being racist against white Christians in Europe. Anyway, that's enough from me. On the football front Wales were pretty awful last night, but in fairness their squad is made up of lower league players, while Bale and Allen were not 100% and Nico Williams has struggled with injuries this tournament. The commentator was saying that Wales had only won two of their last 11 games, it just so happened to be the WC play-off matches. England never really had to get out of second gear. Senegal will be a much bigger test, but I think England should have enough

Returning to the football, I wholeheartedly agree that Wales were very disappointing and it really was a comfortable victory for England. Edited by Willo (30 Nov 2022 9.04am)

You shouldn't have posted a significantly political comment if you're then going to say 'this isn't the thread for such matters' when someone replies. That and there is clearly a context to it that you don't want to hear and so it might be that this isn't the topic for you. Try actually enjoying the competition and commenting on something positive about it instead..

Why are there so many women presenting and commentating? It's particularly jarring. I'm glad to hear that they've got them doing a bit of jarring after they've finished. Earning their keep I like to call it, and everyone loves a bit of strawberry jam.

With the greatest of respect, I commented on Senegal supporters in a 'World Cup 2022' thread. In terms of displaying positivity about the competition I did actually assert that England were worthy winners last night.

Your post, short though it was, clearly could barely have been more political if it had tried. My only point being, that if that's good enough for you, it's good enough for the person replying.

The person responded by providing a Link and I was not taking umbrage with the fact that the information was presented to me. My point was that I was not prepared to engage in a debate about the wider issue on this particular thread for the reasons I stated.

In any case there is much to look forward to with this tournament and so that in my view is a good perspective to take. If we're to drift to valid complaints about the Qatar World Cup, face paint is low down a long list .
