If that fella had a limp, or a stammer , or a birthmark.....the bullies could have chosen that identifier to bully him. bullying is in every country, and always wrong. Regarding English versus pakistan...... we have all seen bullying travel in both directions. there is a line between harmless banter and bullying. If an English friend calls me a Paddy, do i mind ? nope. if a thug outside a chip-shop is being hostile and calls me a Paddy ? not exactly the same is it ? i have witnessed workplace bullying in all directions...regardless of the identity of bully & victim. Depends how far it's taken of course. Considering as a child he was forcibly pinned down and forced to drink alcohol on account of his religious beliefs at a cricket club, I'd say that there are certain experiences that team mates shouldn't put you through. If abuse or bullying has a relentless of OTT quality to it, I don't think outside views towards mass immigration and the like should have anything to do with how those complaints are received. That in a nutshell though is likely the kind of wall be kept coming up against. If they'd listened to concerns earlier, I doubt it would've come to this. A bit of decency and common sense goes a long way in sport, the workplace and society.

It's just more evidence that it's unworkable. I don't agree with certain actions that happen but that doesn't mean I think people should have their livings destroyed. It's exclusion not inclusion.....it's saying that it doesn't matter how good you are at sport that if you don't sign up to what 'Joe Root' or the ECB think is politically acceptable then you can't play cricket. Feck these people. Back when social conservatives ruled all these institutions people like them were called fruit cakes but were still allowed to make a living.....This is pure evil. Muhammed Ali called white people evil and 'devils'....not some...All of them. He was allowed to give his views on race and everything else he believed in....pretty much all of it against the ruling elites and class and the whites who mostly paid to watch him fight.....and you know what. He was allowed to make his living. He became a multi-millionaire because conservatism values meritocracy above opinions. What I'm watching is evil. Edited by Stirlingsays (16 Nov 2021 4.18pm)

There are some awful workplace bullies about....English, pakistani, and other. What is essential is a culture of zero tolerance, reporting the crime and accountability.

My main thought is that this isn't going to help what already looked like a dodgy enough Ashes.

Not for me....I don't want a world where people are frightened to say what they think. I have a person trying to destroy my ability to make a living because he disagrees with me politically. He won't succeed but that's not the point. These people are evil. No different to the witch hunters of old, who also thought they were righteous.

I've stayed out of this thread. I read the first few pages a while back and thought all we were getting was the usual suspects adopting their standard positions and repeating their well-rehearsed arguments, rather than looking at the evidence. As I was not involved and only had a few media accounts to inform, I reached no opinion, so didn't offer one. Today I had to be in my car for a few hours, so put on Radio 5, which I do when Radio 4 is unappealing. So I stumbled on the Committee hearing. I didn't hear every word, as I needed to make a few stops, but I heard enough. Rafiq's testimony was compelling. The behaviour he reported was unacceptable, and so were the responses. There is nothing the least "woke" about it. Unfortunately, the attitudes that lie behind these events are a mirror image of those to be found within a certain group of regular posters in this section of the Hol. Whilst the world at large is registering shock and outrage at the revelations, here the defences are being raised, with completely irrelevant links to "mass immigration" being made again. I suggest everyone takes the time to actually watch, or listen as I did, to the testimony and reach your opinions on the facts. Jonathan Agnew, someone I have a lot of time for, did. He was forthright. There is a problem. We are all involved. We all need to play a part in solving it. I hope everyone here agrees, and does.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Yawn. More Dan personal stuff. Have you lived in a fluffy bubble your whole life? Bullying is part of the human experience for many people. Does everyone else who ever got called a nasty name get one too? Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (16 Nov 2021 3.53pm) It's quite clear form your tone on here that you've been the bully all your life rather than the bullied, and just how damaging that can be to an individual, or group of individuals if that sort of culture is allowed within any organisation - be it a business, a sports club, school or whatever. This isn't just a racist thing. Inappropriate behaviour towards anyone, especially minorities, women, LGBTQ individuals and so on is no longer going unchallenged and people feel like actually have a voice now and are increasingly less scared to speak out against their aggressor. Times change. They have changed. Deal with it.

Like I woke up to these people about five years ago this is going to wake up many more. Many more are coming over and while this movement is peaceful it will grow in strength and representation. You have an identity and a right to be proud of your culture and ancestors. Stand up peacefully against the people who hate you. The Tories are no longer your friends and they won't stand with you when they come for you. Our politicians are either one of them or too cowardly to stand up against these people and say no more. I've listened to Jonathan Agnew over many years...even knew of him as a cricketer. He is a decent man but I've rarely agreed with anything he's written either on cricket or politics. It's no different here.

Your consistent dismissal of racism as an issue is staggering. Your posts don't marry up with the situation. All you need to do is watch Rafiq's testimony to realise how horrible what went on was. All your constant posts about race do is portray a scared man losing his perceived grip of power on the world.
