Looked his usual busy self. Had a chance to score and also had an assist wiped out for an iffy VAR decision but good nonetheless.

You really do wonder what San Marino get out of being thumped like that. Pre-qualifying might be a good idea for lower ranked nations.

Totally agree. The qualifying system needs a far better structure. 10-0 doesn’t really make a great spectacle.

And it makes a bit of a mockery of Goal Difference as the criteria for separating teams on the same number of points at the end of all of the qualifying matches. Say if England and Poland finished level on points and we had a better GD by 1, but we'd beaten San Marino 10-0 and Poland had beat them 5-0, does that really make us the better team overall?

It's a bit like a 7 aside tournament my son played in when he was 9, where in the last match they had to beat the other side by 11 or more to win their side of the draw. They eventually won by 12, but it wasn't enjoyable for either team or spectators (particularly the parents of the other team who couldn't understand why we were still urging our boys on when they were already 9-0 up).

I feel for the poor parents of the San Marino players...

Southgate seems to want to do Palace harm at every turn

There was the PPPG , which Southgate supported, prior to his England role.

Now he puts Gallagher in the spotlight, likely raising his sale price. (yeah, yeah, got to think of the players development)

Wishing Gallagher well, but ultimately , if he fulfils his potential, then it won't be at Palace

Why did Southgate select Gallagher? Is it…

a) because he hates Palace and wanted to push Gallagher’s price even further out of Palace’s range than it was at the start of the season when we took him on loan because we couldn’t afford to buy him?

b) because he hates Forest Hillbilly and wanted to ruin his day?

c) because he had (like anyone who has watched MOTD this season) seen what a great player he is and decided to give him a try?

Agreed. If FIFA wants countries as small as San Marino to compete then they are never going to get any better under the current rules due to a small player gene pool.

I would allow more flexibility for player selection for the minnows. San Marino is next door to Italy I expect there are plenty of Seria B players who would be happy to turn out for them.

One more point

I disagree. I think we just need to accept that there will be strong sides and weak sides due to the country sizes. Loosening the rules makes international football more like club football. I think the rules are more than flexible as it is and I'd hate to see football go down the same route as rugby which I view as a bit of a joke

Serious finance I would imagine.

or d) to stop him playing for Rep. Ireland.

Strong sides and weak sides yes, but these were part timers. Bank clerks and salesman who play football at the weekend. Its just boring watching such a one sided game.

Yes our big rivals for World Cup domination! 🤣

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand. Gallagher is a quality footballer - and those hoping to keep this a closely guarded Palace secret from other teams scouts are not paying attention. Everyone in English football already knows that he is destined for bigger things and even if we had broken the bank and signed him on a permanent contract last summer (which we couldn’t afford to do even then!) we would be worrying about him leaving to a bigger club next summer.

Yeah, its not something that we are going to be able the keep a secret. The guy is scoring and getting praise from everyone in the game. At the end of the season, he’ll have a chat with Tuchell and see how close to the first team he’ll be. Our only real hope of keeping him is that Chelsea sign another couple of CM’s and he wants guaranteed game time.

I must admit I reckon both him and Guehi will be starters come Qatar.

Gallagher is so much more progressive than Phillips, and Guehi would be an excellent foil for Maguire.

Chelsea don’t need to sell him though. If he is not near their first team level (but he will be!) we may get a further loan.
