Dubious myself but recent Dougie work with long term prospects makes me more confident. Interesting rumour today of Tekkers to WH. That would make sense for them and possibly for us if we got Nketiah in return for much the same money.

This has all the hallmarks of a player we are earnestly courting but where neither player nor his current manager want him to come. Is he just a chattel? And what kind of moody number will arrive if we bag him?

And what kind of moody number will arrive if we bag him? I think this is probably correct. I don't get the feeling that he is desperate to come to us and as I have mentioned previously Arsenal have said they are trying to bring in another striker and they failed with their first choice. My guess is he is happy to sit out the next four months and run his contract down. Newcastle are supposedly interested in him well if he wants to take that job I would not go now and wait and see if they stay up. I think it's time to move on I don't see this one happening.

Just throwing this out there - Arsenal are pushing Aubameyang (however you spell it)out the door / or he is running away after a spat with the manager however you want to interpret it - Arsenal cant think Nketiah is the answer or otherwise they wouldn't be allowing him to talk to us / others. Donny van de Beek - has Bergkamp on his side (DvdB girlfriends dad) So why arent Arsenal all over the DvdB loan ?

Aubameyang has to go and that leaves Arsenal short of options up top - hence they are turning down our offers for Nketiah. What the player thinks of this, who knows but my perception is he's happy to wait to become a free agent and then negotiate the best deal for him. I wouldn't have thought that Van de Beek is of interest to Arsenal, they seem well covered in midfield. Edited by NEILLO (30 Jan 2022 11.51am)

Can't say I've watched him much but thought his hat-trick against Sunderland was a bit soft and he wasn't just poor against Forest he was worse than useless. Also remember him planting a header onto the post from two feet out against Everton Benteke styleee the game before Everton played us. That said Mateta is looking better than I thought he'd ever be which is still quite a low bar in fairness.

As others have said, I hope we walk away from this. He doesn't want to be a Palace player, Arsenal don't seem especially motivated to sell to us, so just has this nasty feeling that like the advances of a spurned lover, we'll keep pushing and pushing for it until we end up paying well over the odds for what is basically an unproven talent a decent team doesn't even want anyway.

Personally I would not be unhappy if we didn't sign anyone. DvB has rejected us but at 150k pw then Everton can have him. Interestingly Lampard didn't sign his contract until he had bullied the Everton board to get him, seemingly wanting a sign of faith from the board before signing his contract. Dele Ali may be heading that way too! Ramsay at a reported £200k pw is just beyond being serious. There were a few other mentions but regardless we will finish the season in the top 14. Then we will know just how good Olise, Eze, Mateta, Eduard etc are; whether Jimmy Mac has got another season in him and where O'Connor is going (many a slip etc). It is the summer window that will be the important one! If it is as good as last summers'.......
Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |
