Broadly I’m in agreement with your post WJK. It’s not so much that I don’t think well of Hodgson but it’s more the level of hyperbole around his achievements that I struggle with. I was at the Chelsea victory and it was a tactical masterclass with Chelsea totally confused by the fluidity of our play. I also was fortunate enough to witness the away victories under Hodgson at Man City and Arsenal and said to my family at the time to make the most of it as these were once in 20 years type experiences. Probably an 8 out of 10 to Hodgson for the first few years, particularly with the constraints others have highlighted. Since the back end of last season though there are worrying signs. Some really terrible performances with Hodgson looking clueless as to how remedy the situation. He’s moved to a 442 which has left us vulnerable in defence and central midfield. It’s easy to blame our strikers, but how much service is provided to them in reality. We have no attacking threat without Zaha and as manager Hodgson should surely have addressed this situation by now so that we have an alternative way of threatening the opposition. I’m not advocating that he be sacked, merely that for all parties concerned it may be better to have a parting of the ways at the end of the season. If he leaves and it all goes ‘belly up’ I may look back at his tenure fondly!

Hes changed to 442 to presumably make us more of a threat going forward while weakening us defensively. While its weakened us defensively, it hasn't made much difference going forward. Most games we have started with wilf benteke, ayew and eze, with PVA getting forward, and we still rarely look a threat. So are these players not good enough, or is it tactics/training. And as its clearly not working why on earth hadn't he changed it to stop us leaking goals.

this is the bit i really dont understand. Hes changed to 442 to presumably make us more of a threat going forward while weakening us defensively. There have been spells where 442 worked well for him. Think in particular where he used Cabaye and in form Luka in the central positions with Mcarthur tucked in on the right and RLC tucked in on the left. We had more control in midfield as essentially they were four proper midfield players and Mcarthur and RLC were quite adaptable. Recently Hodgson has tried Ayew and PVA there and it just hasn’t worked. We also have an out of form Luka and a relatively inexperienced Luka in the central areas. This is why we would probably look more secure at the moment if they were bolstered with the addition of Mcarthy and Kouyate to at least make us more competitive and less prone to being outnumbered.
