Actually a fair question. I berate the left when they complain about the flag of St George as being racist, it's their flag as well and if they flew it with pride at their demos it would not be the property of the right. I guess the same applies to climate change which is currently dominated by left leaning people so their solutions are those of the left. I am not a climate change denier and your are correct the right should be able to make a case for climate change that doesn't involves spending billions in taxes and forcing people back to the middle ages. I think this is slowly starting to happen, in the this election all mainstream parties ate making pledges. So your correct it is up to other to wrest the subject from being the exclusive domain of the left and denying it doesn't exist probably won't get the job done. Agreed. I think the stark politicisation of an issue that will impact us regardless of our personal beliefs is one of the more unfortunate aspects of modern politics and thinking. I suspect that polluting corporations are more than happy to have the current ragtag bunch heralding climate action. They possibly even financially support it through one mechanism or another, because it's much more effective to make these individuals rather than the actual issues, the main talking point.

I don't always agree but I do get the standpoint. On climate change I do not get it. In the US ok as the fossil fuel industry is thick with the Christian right whose innate low intelligence makes them highly susceptible to the sort of cod scientific bollox they are fed. They hold the genuine belief that climate change is a fiction the invention of the Chinese etc as they are not clever enough to know better. However what's your excuse? Why do you so readily grasp anything that runs counter to Exxon business interests as if they were the dominant factors. Take the cobalt mining point. Probably true. However technology is young and the ingredients may eventually switch to synthesised elements. In the meantime if you ask the population of the relevant countries as a whole I bet most would on balance take poor work conditions for their miners over floods and drought that destroy their crops and cause their children to starve. Climate change is all but universally acknowledged as the biggest danger facing our world. A damn site more important than the health service Brexit immigration et al and obviously so. So why is anti green politics still the mantra of the conservative right? WHY? Good post

Also nowhere near the way over 300 you quoted either. I see Tesla has just announced its new pick up truck with a range of 500 miles. It’s amazing how quickly technology moves on nowadays, it’s only been a few days and your argument is already redundant.

When society, or even individual visionaries, put their mind to moving technology forward it happens in the blink of an eye. If we manage to avoid wiping ourselves out, our current utilisation of energy will look like something out of the stone age.

Just seen a video. Musk does over promise but the point is that he moves the bar the others then play catch up and maybe go past him, hopefully the public are the winners.

So are the Christian left just as thick? You're wrong to suggest it's 'innate'.....I don't agree with them but many intelligent people believe in many different forms of nonsense. A person's beliefs are more emotionally tied in than a product of reason. For intelligence to be 'innately low' is has to be set low genetically. Intelligent people are raised with mythical belief systems all over the world. They don't all abandon them. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Nov 2019 2.02pm)

IF they achieve 500 miles thats a great step forward, but i am sceptical as it more than doubles the best real world mileage achievable now.

For concerns as to 'evidence' on climate science and why we shouldn't just blindly listen to 'consensus' skip to 21:10 of Bret Weinstein's recent podcast. This isn't an argument for saying that climate change isn't real and that action isn't required but it definitely is true that binary and certain positions are misguided. Media headlines and scare stories are just that.
