Just seen the incident. We got very lucky. Isn't VAR, supposed to stop these kind of things from happening? They said it wasn't a clear and obvious error so couldn't rule over the official on the pitch. Maybe Grelish paid for his reptuation? Anyway good win for you - probably won't have to worry about us beating you even once this season on current form!

We absolutely got lucky but VAR in this case couldn't even have helped. The ref blew before the shot was taken, so even if VAR were able to overturn the referees opinion about the 'dive', they still couldn't count the goal as the whistle interfered with play. As far as the dive/foul, the ref thought it was a dive, I don't think it was but once he's made the call VAR can only overturn it if it's an obvious error. If we discount all our opinions, it wasn't obviously not a dive, so VAR can't really do anything. Sorry just seen your post before I did my version. I agree once the whistle is blown it's all irrelevant if they are going to use VAR let the play continue for a few moments.

I thought they could allow play to continue for a few moments and then check with VAR? Anyway my point was that once he blew his whistle Palace would argue they stopped playing so even if VAR said it wasn't a dive the goal could not stand. Allow play to continue for an offside; sure, as is the current guidance I believe, but you can't allow play to continue if you think an attacking player has committed a misdemeanor such as a foul or handball or, in this case, a simulation. Otherwise, you may as well dispense with the referee entirely - or at least take his whistle away. I entirely agree with the point you've reiterated, Badger, in that play stops with the whistle therefore VAR can't 'correct' a decision made.

On the subject of "rub of the green" and Grumpy Grealish's dive/no dive .... we could of had a pen in the first half when our top scorer, JA was shoved in the back.
We move in the direction of our thoughts. |

We made incredibly hard work of that. 40 mins against a 10 man newly promoted team. We should be comfortably winning not hanging on at the death and relying on a very dubious referee call to avoid embarrassment. Great to get the points on the board but please let’s not get carried away and forget the glaring issues we have.

OK , I for one will join you and stay at home and be miserable and reflect on our terrible rise to fourth.

Must be so nice to look at everything as black and white, so simplistically. So that goal going in means Hodgson is the best manager ever and never delays making attacking subs or lacks the balls to actually have a go at winning home games against lesser teams, rather that simply trying to not lose? I fail to see why nearly every post of yours has a negative twist. What do you expect, we totally dominated the game with 22 shots on another day, more may of gone in.
