Great topic, I believe I am no different from the majority of Palace fans. I love the club and supporting it, love being Premier league status etc. But I am completely fed up struggling every season, I like SP but have to say he could well be a bit out of his depth. Why oh why are we "fire fighting" every season? Just take a look at the purchases we made in the last window and that may give you some answers. I love Roy but is he really the future for us? All I ask is for a bit of football common sense when it comes to the transfer window, just like big Sam sorted for us. COYP

Whilst I am disappointed that we lost to Spurs it isn't this that has seriously hacked me off. A lot of good sides will lose to them. I am however totally hacked off regarding the way this club is run by Steve Parish and Co. Now before you all tell me "He saved the club in 2010" hear me out.

After 6 seasons in the prem we have zero to show for it as a club. The infrastructure is non existent including scouting , training ground, academy and not to mention the stadium. Every season is a bandaged solution to just get by and hope for the best. This season Parish is being totally found out and the likes of Bournemouth, Watford, Burnley and dare I say it Brighton are now bigger and better run clubs than us. We lost 4 key players last year and replaced one of them with Jordan Ayew who is one of the worst players i have seen at any level. Parish is reactive and still thinks he is running a small business. He has taken us as far as he can and we need an owner who can actually take this forward and bring us the stability that our club should be experiencing at this moment in time.

I await for all the Nigel's to come out and slate me on this.

A very astute post. Parish bought the club for nothing and got really lucky when we got promoted. His judgment had little to do with it.

We only have Zaha by a twist of fate and our last two windows were only going to go one way.
We have had bad luck with injuries and Benteke should have been a sound signing but that does not excuse our lack of progress and constant struggle with relegation.

Luck is a massive factor short term with football, good or bad.....As Hrolf points out.

But long term it's all about how much money you have.

We've been very lucky to get from administration to where we are but we've also been in the PL long enough to learn from our mistakes ... or at least you would have thought so!

Yep....It's been fire fighting to stay up the last couple of seasons.

Our best new player has come from the academy....Not sustainable really.

A lot of valid posts here including the lack of infrastructure.
I will limit my observations to on the field.
With the constant management upheaval over recent years it made sense to appoint a Director of Football.
It would enable some sort of continuity and coherent strategy as each manager left.
However, it appears that Dougie has written his own job description.
Was the job advertised and were there other better qualified candidates?
To my knowledge Dougie has never performed this function elsewhere and his only qualification is that he has strong Palace connections and Steve trusts him.
Clearly these are attributes but it does not mean he is qualified to perform the role.
The transfer activity in recents windows has been shambolic.
Perhaps there are financial constraints but none of the players brought in (other than Kouyate) are being used.
This points to a disconnect with what Roy is asking for in player terms.

Parish's main strength has been as a crisis resolver. What we really need is a few years under a capable manager who is properly backed in the transfer window - I was hoping that would be Allardyce.

We'd actually look pretty good right now if only we had a striker - the rest of the squad is in decent shape, although we didn't replace RLC and Cabaye properly. There just seems to be a tendency to back the manager to get out of a crisis, then rest on our laurels when we've had half a good season.

So very true.
Wonder if Sam could be persuaded ,if the price was right,to come back and start a long overdue revival in our fortunes??

I have been very vocal about the situation we are in and i firmly believe Parish is the wrong man for us. I have personal reasons for my opinion and i also have reasons based on what we see, here and are told via media etc.

People who say '6 years in the prem', 'respectable finishes' are in denial, in my opnion because it glosses over the wider issues that many fans are slowly coming to realise.

Parish is a chancer and gambles, let's start at the begining - he held at for the final minute to buy palace, at the cheapest value.

Business wise, that's smart - but what damage did it do to the club, how do fans feel about it, watching players go, managers move on etc ?

Parish stated the goal was to save palace and then eventually sell on - why hasn't he?

We got into the prem far quicker than we ever realised - everyone and their dog stated that. Holloway even said he wasn't ready.

Since then, it's been one mistake after another, sure some were just the way it goes, but nothing was learnt.

2013 - 2018 we have had 7 managers. 2 walked, 4 replaced. How many clubs in the premiership in that time, have had two managers quit pre season? Doesn't that strike odd to some of you?

Other managers/clubs with notable hard to work with Chairmen - Newcastle.. no upheaval there, West Ham, no walking, Chelsea? Just firing.

Each new manager is given an emergency budget to plug the gap, which ultimately has a knock on effect.

This summer just gone should have been defining - either...

A) Back Roy and build around Zaha and then be conservative for next couple of years as the foundations of Roy's way would have been laid.

B) Back a new manager with a 3-4 year plan and philosophy and completely over haul the club - either build around zaha or cashing in and starting from fresh.

Now, B would have been my preferred approach. Start fresh, cash in on Zaha a year early (whoever thinks he will start the 2019 season is in clear denial), ditch Bentekke, and use the accumulated 50 mil to build around Meyer, two strikers that score and bolster the squad.

A new look palace that would have been a boring, mid table team. Then, start to redevelop the youth set up.

Selhurst is a pipe dream - leave it as it is.

Yep. Parish has a record in hiring from a Palace folklore book. Odd and naive.

Just get Chris Wilder in the summer and cut our loses on Benteke and Wickham (spend the money on a prospect from championship like one of the Brentford boys, and get an old target man like Sam Vokes that at least 100 percent can hold the ball up and get us up the fkin pitch)

Parish transfer spending isnt the problem, it's his falling out with good managers there must be a problem behind scenes in that respect no doubt seems to like a yes man! Also infrastructure will be seen word is he's looming for a training ground in Kent that's affordable and the new stand plans do look ok if it happens. As for Sorloth and Meyer have been bang average but haven't played 10 games between them look how long Murray took to catch fire. On that note selling him was the biggest mistake in the last 10 years for me simple. As for Ayew I rated him tbf and still think wide or as an impact sub will be ok. A number 9 he is not clearly ha,ha. Keep the faith for now end of season with no action in Jan and the stadium plans not progressed I will reconsider my faith in Parish. He certainly is under the microscope from now! Eagles...
