If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

All this talk of whether Southampton can get out of it at our expense and people inferring we shouldn't think so negatively! I remember the last time we dropped out of the Prem thanks to Saints at home ... so sh*tting myself they'll shaft us again somehow!

Your line of thinking seems to be the form book will go out of the window and we'll lose every game and teams below us will start beating top 6 sides. No analysis just being irritating and irrational. I think W is right, sods law and pressure can well upset the form book.

All this antipathy aimed at me for daring to conclude that we will be relegated.I accept that people can take an alternative viewpoint but to attract such hostility is disappointing to put it mildly.I'm beginning to feel that I am as welcome as a flatulent dog in a lift.

It is a bit like Peter and the Wolf, only in the story Peter gets eaten by a wolf whereas somehow you've managed to survive despite losing out on lift space to flatulent dogs.

Indeed. Looking at the league table, with so few matches remaining, we are just above Southampton but they have a game in hand, we are behind Huddersfield albeit by only 1 point and we are behind both Swansea and W.Ham who both have game in hand. We are behind these teams which creates extra pressure and we could easily incur injuries which with our squad depth could really hamper our chances.Southampton came within minutes of getting an unexpected point at Arsenal and some of the teams around us in the table could easily get unexpected results. Some have been thinking that having completed the Liverpool games the next 6 games would be easier than the previous 6 but as Hodgson pointed out he doesn't view it in this way. To be fair to Willo he's only stating what many us fear but cannot bring ourselves to say out loud. Looking at facts alone, our run in is kind. Every single team on paper we can beat. But, those around us who have 'harder' games are playing at a time when the top 4 is almost nailed on, thus 'on the beach' syndrome kicks in. Can we do it? Yes. And if we were give this scenario after our first seven games we'd have taken it. But...lay off Willo for daring to echo our gravest concern. And finally, if we go down it'll hurt but the downs are part of supporting this utterly ridiculous club of ours.

Southampton's is against Swansea, meaning they both can't get 3 points from the extra game, so for at least one of them it can't be an advantage over us. Given the results the top 6 tend to get against everyone and the results those in the bottom 10 get, I'd suggest playing the teams in the bottom 10 is easier and that's true at any point in the season. Hodgson has to say that out of respect and not to look like he's assuming we can just turn up and win. The reality is though that if you played all the games from now until the end of the season 10,000 times we'd stay up over 90% of the time. I'm definitely worried and will be nervous at all of the games until it's settled one way or the other, but I am not predicting we'll go down as all the actual evidence suggests it's unlikely. Let us not forget that you said we'd lose to Hull last season despite their poor form away from home and despite the fact that they generally weren't a very good team. You also predicted we'd go down in previous seasons and were wrong. If we're making predictions it would be sensible to assume that any you make will be a load of old hogwash.
