On Channel 4, the home of identity politics, from the very outset it's object was to tell us that us Whitey better think again about what it is to be British. It could barely contain itself in telling us that a man living in the land which eventually became Britain might have had dark skin. Oh and he probably originated from the Middle East, don't forget that.
Then two facial recreation guys created a model with a happy grin, big blue eyes and nicely styled long dark hair so we could see what a lovely chap he was. They also went to lengths to point out that he was not related to a load of cannibals that had lived there around 5000 years earlier as if that proved something about his habits and should make us all feel better.
Apparently, some of us share up to 10% of our genes with him. But wait. Some Europeans, share up to 5% of their genes with Neanderthals. Oh dear, not so good right?
And hold on. If they could work out that he had dark skin, then they must have known that his kind had dark skin already since they had a load of other individuals to compare him to across Europe who had very similar genetic makeup. Hmmm. And surely any humans originally leaving Africa would have come through the Middle East no? Not really a genetic revelation after all.

So what this piece of blatant propaganda was trying to tell us is that we shouldn't worry about immigration with its housing shortage, pressure on the NHS, organised crime, knife murders, terrorism, loony religions, slavery, gang culture and all the rest because good old Cheddar man might have had dark skin.
Of course, they overlooked the point that many people living on this piece of land called Britain have had ancestors here for thousands of years whereas now with thousand coming here every year and having lots of children, that heritage will soon be erased in a matter of centuries.
It's how you spin it isn't it.

I'm really struggling with how you've managed to make this about the NHS and gang culture - I said earlier on the thread that I couldn't believe people were using this as a politicial football quite as much as they have been, but your post is a whole new level.

By all means, review the science behind this sceptically, because I agree it's far from a fact, but to politicise it the way you have is just bizarre.

Most people know that Channel 4.....like all the main channels is presented through a left wing middle class prism.

I stopped watching most TV broadcasts because even Sky is left wing now. I like to hear both sides of the argument ...so I read the BBC website for the lefty viewpoint on what's important and watch selected commentators as a counterbalance....the Spectator is very good.

The country is headed for the dogs. My jobs is to guide my boys through it with minimal harm.

I can only assume that you are being deliberately obtuse.
The programme was clearly designed from the outset to challenge people's ideas about race and Britishness.
Why?
How has a man who lived 10'000 years ago and shares maybe 10% of his genes with us got anything to do with 'Britishness'?
It was clearly linked to modern politics and I am just making the counter argument. You are more than welcome to catch me out doing that.
