Let's be honest no one knows what is happenning. We have had all sorts of rumours but fact is he is not our player. We always seem to struggle to get players 'over the line,' and often seem to lose out because of it. This will he won't he stuff is just dull and slowly but surely leads me down the can't be bothered caring path. Use of this 'lose out' comment is becoming more & more common but I struggle with the logic behind it. If we do not sign a player because fees/wages/terms couldn't be agreed it doesn't mean we've lost out it means the deal wasn't right for us. If a club wants to sell & the player genuinely wants to come here then these issues can normally be overcome. You start bringing in players on inflated wages you start to alienate the existing guys who want to know, quite rightly, why these squad players should be earning more than them etc. It's all about balance & unless you're talking about another household name like Cabaye or Benteke then the Club need to be very aware of the deals they are putting together.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I can't help thinking that with everyone who counts being in Hong Kong it's no surprise that nothing's been going on transfer wise. Once everybody gets back I'm sure things will happen regarding our transfer targets. Whether that involves Riedewald, Martins Indi and Chambers we'll soon find out.

Steve Parish has already made the point that with modern technology it doesn't matter where in the world he is and presumably he is concentrating on transfer business wherever he is as only the coaching staff have other things on their minds whilst out there

Leaving aside the fact that half of your response is concerning semantics as if we are interested in a player but won't pay what the selling club wants or what the player wants in wages we are still effective "losing out" there is already huge disparity in wages at our (and probably every other) club. Pardew made a ridiculous public comment that Cabaye earned more than anyone else because he was much better and since then Zaha has had a huge and well publicized pay rise. In addition players that cost little or nothing like Sako and Campbell earn comparatively more than others as the club is only interested in cost of the total package

In our bid to compete, Palace's wage structure has become a mess, when you look at it against a club like Tottenham. We have massively overpaid on some of our players either in terms of wages, or transfer fee, or both. When you have Sako on a reported 65k a week, you sort of think `why should we blink about paying Benteke and Wilf double that?' Why shouldn't we pay a Dutch youth international 75k a week? (not saying we are btw, just making a point). But that's not sustainable and is one reason to go for a top notch academy. Start bringing through talent into the first team again, and we can pay that talent a relatively low wage during the early stages of their Palace careers, and be more circumspect when considering up-and-coming championship players demanding 65k a week. Sell one or two kids every now and then, and that's more than paid for itself. That's a self-sustaining business. Whereas I think we may be reaching a point of stress with our current business model. Perhaps one of the issues is that the big clubs are already so well set up in South London, with loads of kids coaching set ups everywhere, feeding through the better ones to their academies. It must feel like an uphill task.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

SSN :- the plot thickens..........De Boer hopes to complete the signing of Riedewald very shortly but would not comment on reports which have suggested that negotiations are ongoing with Arsenal over a move for Chambers. "It's not 100 per cent done so we have to wait [for Riedewald]. Hopefully it is going to be a very short time," he said, before adding on Chambers: "I have nothing to say about this case."
