That's because every now and then one of them goes poking around in Summer Isle and gets burnt in a big wicker man.

I do go to church actually, sometimes twice a week, ...and I think you will find that the leaders of this country would consider this a christian country although I know the secularists, humanists, atheists are growing in their calls to abolish the Christmas and Easter holidays and associated traditions e.g nativity plays etc You go to Church and you call this a Christian country? Tell me, when you are in Church do you keep your eyes shut? A small collection of pensioners doesn't represent this country in terms of belief. Those days are long gone. What politicians say when they are looking to court the post 65 vote....who are far more likely to vote....what they say bears little connection to the real reality. I'm a secularist and I have no desire to change Christian traditions....The religious significance has largely been lost to most people. I don't believe to forcing people to change. Outside of a majority call for change I don't see these rituals and traditions going. I'm fine with that.

I use to put myself down as a Christian for a long time....I didn't go to Church regularly though and to be honest I was a cultural Christian. I think you will find that a large number of those 'Christians' are cultural Christians....Church attendance figures pretty much prove it. I didn't give it much thought until I was in my early thirties and it was only after that....only after that reflection and looking at the evidence, reading books, talking to clear minded people that I realised that holding onto these myths was a dishonesty to myself. It wasn't easy to give up religion.....I think a lot of people feel that. Edited by Stirlingsays (21 Oct 2016 10.00am)

Repeat folk tales that have become part of the national lexicon, but are actually as reliable as the bloke down the pub. Just to give a reason to stop these war refugees a place to be safe and welcomed. Someone said on question time tonight that if we welcome those refugees it would pay back dividends because they will feel integrated in a place that was welcoming and gave them refuge from the horrors of war. And how can you say for certain that they have been through "hell" to get here.

I now have an image of Susan Boyle flashing her muff while Edward Woodward yells "Oh Jesus Christ no, for the love of the Lord oh God noooooo".

By "mix it up" you mean lurch from left to ultra left and back again? By "read widely" you mean union handbook, Momentum blog, Daily Mirror, Grauniad, etc etc? And you have the brass neck to accuse me and others of having a closed mindset!
