Dwight is on a four year contract. Time will tell. The big thing for me last night was that - and even excluding the goals - for that last 15 minutes he looked like he really belonged at this level and that's the first time honestly I have seen it. I'm taking about positioning and awareness and sheer determination. Yes I remember the Sunderland and Villa games but i'm talking about a chunk of the game not just an instant. *applauds* Edited by Kermit8 (06 May 2014 9.47am) Nice post Kermit. Liverpool are very fragile at the back but playing against a profile team is tough in itself. Gayle came on and played like he had a point to prove. I hope he takes that performance as a marker and uses it to prove to himself that he can play in the big league as I think his mentality has been holding him back. He gets that right and we have a double figure striker next season, no doubt.

He proved last night that he has amazing capability and hopefully this will shut his doubters up. He was never going to set the premier league alight overnight and people have to realise he has moved up several leagues in short period of time. End of the day, we had to go for someone like Gayle, of course if we could get a proven premier league striker that scores 20 goals a season, great, but they are going to be v. expensive, and in high demand, so given we were newly promoted, getting someone like Gayle in was in line with our status at the time. He is beginning to prove he can cut at this level too. He just needs to improve some other elements of his game ie passing/positioning.

Still looks good when the game has opened up. It's no coincidence he scores when the game has opened up. But when it hasn't opened up he doesn't offer much. The runs and moving into space isn't up to this level. That simple pass he gave away on the edge of the box shows he needs to improve a lot to be a Prem player. If TP can improve his game before a game opens up then he'll be an option. Unfortunately there aren't many games where it does, although the 1-0 to us and breaking quickly scenario may happen quite a bit. Not taking away 2 very well taken goals but the last time a minority got carried away with the Villa worldie he didn't play again for 4 months. That is because he doesn't offer what Jerome and Chamkh do at number 9 and/or 10. Possible for a partnership though if we ever have one.

Thing about Gayle is he's very much like Defoe, he's obviously too short to hold up the ball and his passing will is average but the fact that he is rapid and uses his footballing brain to outsmart defenders makes him a great threat. The similarities between him and Defoe are staggering. Only main difference is Gayle is a few inches bigger, that can only be good. Edited by Jordan555x (06 May 2014 12.57pm)

He's now played 800 minutes for us this season in the league (equates to 8.8 full games in total) and scored 5 goals. I'm not sure anyone can ask for more than that for a striker. He still has a lot to learn too so things can only get better.

His first goal was the sign of a quality finisher, opened his body and calmly sidefooted it home. I'm afraid dear old CJ would have put it in the upper tier.
