I think if I heard Palace fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" it'll be the first time in my life I'll be embarrassed to be a Palace fan. It'll be worse than coming into the office in Brighton last year after they'd done us 3-0 at the weekend.

Eh? We've sung it loads of times.

Well I'm glad i've never seen/heard it happen.

I've never heard it sung either despite standing next to the signing section in Selhurst and attending a large selection of away games for the last 4 to 5 years.

Ah, you are all so young. Of course I hate you for it. But yes, we used to hold up our scarves and sing the song, maybe that's why it doesn't hold the same concerns for me as for many people here.

I've been going since 1968 and I've never heard it, let alone participated in it.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

How is the "justice for the 36" campaign going, 30th anniversary next year,

Yeah I thought so

You had better read this then Hibbystu, assuming you mean the 39 at Heysel. Liverpool and Juve have a close affinity now based on what happened.

[Link]

Also, read this. Heysel wasn't Liverpool fans, it was a joint operation by many of the 'Firms' at the time. You can't just blame Liverpool, it was England versus Italy in reprisal, you may just as well blame the influence of 'The Italian Job'.

Interesting comment included:

In the years that followed many of the huge fan banners on display wherever Liverpool played incorporated a Juventus flag as a mark of respect to the victims

...Not to mention the true villains behind the disaster. Firstly, the Belgian police were hopeless. They fielded what was effectively a reserve team as most of the officers had been granted leave given the visit of the pope the previous week. Why oh why did they put Ultras right next to the Liverpool supporters separated only by a flimsy fence?

Secondly [and by far the most significant contributing factor that directly led to the deaths] why was a game of such importance played in what ought to have been a condemned building? The arrest of random Liverpool supporters was nothing short of a deflection and scapegoating.

In short, Liverpool fan culpability was way down the order of contributing causes.

Also, wasn't the decison to English clubs from Europe self-imposed by the British government? Similarly, the decision to lift the ban??

Weren't Liverpool next to the 'neutral' section which was supposed to be for Belgians? Liverpool fans were angry about this. Juve bought all the tickets.

Juve's proper section was on the other side of the neutral so you had Liverpool-neutral-Juve.of that?

I remember after the main part of it settled down, Juve tried to have a go from behind the goal. That wasn't anywhere near the Liverpool fans or the wall. There were Juve fans with scarves over half their faces throwing stuff at Police from the track around the pitch.

Dunno. Saw it on the telly at the time but couldn't see their faces. The second link is to a site run by a Juventus fan so presumably not a Liverpool apologist.

Maple, can you not delete any of the quote details and just type at the very bottom of all the text you see in the big white text typing window. Otherwise it looks like you've written the whole thing and are arguing with yourself. Thank you.

So will there be a similar recognition of 25 years since the Heysel Stadium disaster in 2015 - the 36 fans who died, the 600 who were injured, or the 14 Liverpool fans who served manslaughter sentences of 3 years apiece for their part in events.

In 2015 it will be 30 years since that tragedy. Sadly it's a tragedy that many Liverpool fans believe the Juventus fans need to get over it. Sad but true!

I really appreciate that. It seems I am a Nigel for not hating other clubs' fans. The thing is, I remember a time before the really nasty times. Yet again we dwell on the nonsense that happened when I was a young man instead of the better times both before and after. This is absolutely one of the best times ever, we should enjoy it to the max. We KNOW it can't last.

All well and good, and organised by decent fans, but there are still those with blood on their hands who demand justice for the 96

I support Scotland, Hibs and the Palace, no glory hunters here!!!!!!

It's true Cucking, I remember back in the 80's the "singers" on the Holmesdale and Arthur enclosure used to sing YNWA, complete with scarves held aloft. In those days we used to sing a few other clubs' songs too, sometimes with different lyrics, sometimes not, such as West Ham's "bubbles" and the "play up Pompey" song. We also nicked "celery" off Chelsea and a version of "oh when the saints..." from Southampton.

I never understood why but it did happen.

As I recall back in the day (60's / 70's) , just about every teams supporters sang YNWA. It was a standard football anthem.
Not advocating singing it for Liverpool , just saying.
