I don't think it should be considered at all.

Not in these cases, nor any others. Justice is supposed to be equal to all.

Maybe only when it serves the 'public interest', and relates to minor offences. Sometimes its probably better not to send someone to prison, if its in societies best interest to pursue an more productive alternative.

But for a serial sex offender. No way.

Disagree - that's precisely how it works. Initial estimates are that his painting have dropped by 90% in value. And when was the last time you heard a Gary Glitter record played?

In Harris's case I'm more referring to his paintings.....I don't think Harris's music carried much weight anyway outside of humorous listening.

Still, the reality is that art is art and how people respond to it differs.

Berry's music is still played......The BBC have art by a pedophile right outside their entrance....If I remember correctly.

Glitter's music is played around the world.....The man doesn't have to work.....I think he made £130,000 thanks to his music being played during the NBA finals.

Initial estimates by who? They aren't worth anything.
The worth of a painting isn't known until someone bids for it. The reputation of someone whether good or bad does have an effect, but not always how you might think.

Hitler's paintings weren't put in the bin you know.....And he wasn't that good. If I remember correctly one of his went for nearly a hundred grand a few years back.

There is a very healthy market in 'black art'. The price of 'Jim'll Fix it' badges, has risen dramatically in the last few years. Whilst the art value of Rolf's works will drop in the short term, chances are that there are people who collect objects of interest related to notorious criminals: esp when the individual has died, and the stigma about profiting from such objects diminishes.

The face value may have decreased, unique, one of objects such as a painting by a celebrity criminal will hold its value very well, especially in certain markets.

You woulnd't have got a fiver for a hitler painting in 1945, now, they go for a hundred grand, and he couldn't paint. The art world isn't exactly strangers to people who were deviants, perverts and weirdos.

I made the same observation in a comment roughly an hour before yours, Jamie.

For this shameless plagiarism of my art, expect to hear from my lawyers.

No. They earned it, despite his dispicable acts there is no doubting that both were very hard working entertainers (and I'd consider his child molestation to be the lesser of Glitters crimes). Its important to remember that they're not being punished for being s**t musicians or entertainers, but for being sex offenders - the two are seperate.

Who the f**k pays to play Glitters music or sample it, s**t second rate hack bands. Thats how s**t Oasis are, they paid Garry Glitter for a sample.

The good news is, once they're convicted they're liable for compensation claims from their victims, so you can take some respite from the fact that they're going to lose their fortunes.

There's a kind of justice there perhaps.

Still, I think there is a huge hypocrisy within society and a denial of reality over pedophiles/nounces/child molesters...Whatever we call them.... Apparently if you are gay or straight your sexuality is quite set to some degree. Now society accepts that and it's frequently mentioned that there is a genetic propensity to sexuality....Anyone with half a brain could see that anyway.

But if you fancy the youngsters it means that you're evil and it's a choice.....This is a tricky thing to type about....And I should again state that personally I think we have to deal with underage sex (seniors with minors) or abuse with prison sentences.

Though I want to point out that some twit shagging a 15 year old isn't the same as a pedo abusing an under ten......Everyone gives it the same treatment which is just nonsense....Both wrong but it's on different scales.

I think for the majority of people they chose to not think of any grey areas and just go for the full on black and white of 'hang em' the perverts.

These people are damaging to any civil society. But so many people fail to appreciate that they have always been here and that 'nature' isn't interested in how we wish to structure society or how we would wish people to be.

It's like everything else, people are born with propensities. Environment and most importantly upbringing can alter that somewhat but tendencies are there all the same. Just like some people are born smarter than the average or more violent or likely to be straight or gay.....Some are born likely to be child molesters...And again importantly some have upbringings that make it more likely that they will become one....Some tendencies just don't work for the society we wish to create...Worked in ancient China but not here.

It's what we do with them that is the tricky and sometimes hypocritical thing.

You arrest them and they go through the court process -where a jury of 12 people and a judge will hear the evidence and a judgement will be made. I imagine that judgement will be different dependent upon circumstance. Thats what happened to Harris. I have a genetic desire for busty blond women but guess what - I don't just go and get one, touch one, grope one etc without her consent as that is wrong and I would deserve punishment irrespective of my genetic propensity.
