Do fans hate Sakho? Or do they just see better, more reliable options already present in the squad on cheaper wages?

At almost a 3rd of the price Tomkins has been a better signing overall and when he and Cahill are fit, they are surely our best centre back partnership. Certainly in my opinion anyway.

Funny how we can so easily go off track on these threads. Since when has Sakho been 'a signing on the way'?

However, my contribution to the Sakho debate is that I don't think fans want to get rid of him because they think he's no good. He's simply an extravagance we can barely afford given his wages and his injury record over the last 18 months or so. It's ironic that we do actually NEED him at the moment owing to injuries to our two first choice CBs of last season. I can well see him back in the team next month.

Its not how much we paid for him or how much we pay him that bothers me, its how he plays. I wince every time he gets the ball & I've not felt like that since Claude Davis

Spot on for me. I couldn’t care less if he played for free. He shouldn’t be near the starting 11.

Listening to Lawrenson last season on Sakho.

'You know looking at him tonight for Palace, and I first thought this with Liverpool, is that Sakho is not a footballer'.

'He is a duck'.

Really (commentator winces) , yes look at his movement it is just like a duck moves, sideways and in a circle bobbing up and down.

He bobs back up again after each mistake.

Lawro you are not a biased Liverpool man by any chance.

Sakho and Tompkins were excellent together, can be again.

This is it for me. He is capable of doing playing to a level above every other defender in our squad, he has the ability to also pick a pass from deep and cut through the opposition. He is also good for about 1-2 shocking mistakes a game which can often result in letting in howlers.

Personally I don’t think he is in our best partnership, but we are so thin on the ground, if he can stay fit this season he will certainly be an important player for us.

For me our best pairing was Cahill and Kelly last season, they looked rock solid but our best pairing ability wise is probably Cahill and Tomkins. If everyone was fit, I’d be looking to move Sakho on because of his fitness issues and silly wages, but sadly right now we can’t afford to.

Ability wise I think our best partnership, with both match fit and in their best form, is Cahill and Sakho. If Sakho is fit and in form in January, maybe there will be some bids coming in for him? All our CBs are at least very good, and Kelly and Dann would do well against most PL attacks

I honestly don't understand all the negativity given for Sakho. I think the guy is a quality centre back. Everyone makes mistakes and isn't perfect but he is a solid defender most of the time. I remember when the majority of you was putting him in their all time Palace 11 only a couple of seasons ago. How fast people can change their opinion on someone. I can't deny he is on a ridiculously high wage but he is a very good defender non the less.

I totally agree and if he isn’t the best centre back ever to wear a palace shirt (which I personally think he is), then he is certainly the most entertaining

Sakho is a very good defender and I still remember how thrilled I was to sign him but for me he has one huge mistake in him almost every game. A dodgy pass that puts the striker through, a ridiculous challenge, it changes every time. For me you can't do that in Roy's system which relies on us being completely watertight.

Calamity Claude never got near the ball though. He was always too busy kicking the player.

I actually rated Claude quite highly at the time, very powerful, dominant in the air...and adept at giving away the odd pen or numerous free kicks.
