Only UK GEs really mean anything. And I include referendums in that analysis. Their pointless petition didn’t change a thing Change no, but as a demonstration of the depth of feeling on that side of the argument it meant a great deal more than the pointless upcoming EU elections, which are a waste of time and money. Unless of course we stay in! Are you now in favour of that? Happy days You must be easily pleased! I think we need to concentrate on much more serious issues than the sideshows.

At least the protest party he has started is trying to get a representative elected to where our democracy really happens. Parliament. Their points can be debated and exposed there and seen for what they are. All the bluster about democracy being abandoned etc, etc, because of a referendum result not being followed through in a way which satisfies a particular viewpoint is just froth. It's a demonstration of how little people who support Farage understand about British democracy. Not Farage himself. He understands it well enough but is prepared to use people's ignorance for his own purposes. I give thanks that we don't elect Presidents in the UK or we might end up with Farage.

As "no deal" actually means Brexit and we have a government determined to make us remain it seems unlikely that they're going to do the sensible thing.

For those who struggle with the concept of irony, this post is it. Talking about democracy when you're determined to overturn the will of the majority ffs. Wake up. Edited by ChrisGC (11 May 2019 8.49am) It's talking about democracy and linking it, in the UK, to referendums that is the irony. No referendum in the UK has any part in our democracy which is vested solely in Parliament. The will of the majority for us ONLY matters when we vote in a GE. That has zilch to do with whether you voted Leave or Remain. It is simply a fact.

You just demonstrated my point that so many Brexiteers don't understand how British democracy actually works. It's not done via referendums. Or indeed "People's votes". Which are the same thing. It's done in Parliament.
