Even the best make mistakes. Being run by people, not by machines, means it will always happen from time to time. The important thing to note is that the BBC does have editorial guidelines which require it to report news with due accuracy and due impartiality. The BBC have apologised and said ""While Ofcom has found that our reporting was not in breach of the Broadcasting Code, the BBC's Executive Complaints Unit ruled in January this year that more could have been done sooner to acknowledge the differing views about what could be heard on the recording of the attack. The BBC apologised at the time for not acting sooner to highlight that the contents of the recording was contested." Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. The Board of Deputies of British Jews do seem to take great offence at some things others would not. Don't though let that stop anyone having another pop at the BBC. This thinking has been the cause of Jewish abuse for centuries. It certainly led to the prolonging of the Shoah during WWII.

It seems clear that they were totally wrong and biased in their reporting. Would you have saud the same if GB news had been the ones “ in the dock” ?. I doubt it.

I had to smile at the 6pm news on BBC tonight. The announcement of the death of some bloke that appeared in East Enders came before the announcement of the death of the far more famous Leslie Phillips

If you read what actually happened they did make an awfully big fuss over not very much. Something which if it had happened to others would probably have gone unnoticed. I know they are highly sensitive to any kind of anti-Semitic sentiment but when it clearly wasn't I think they should think a bit harder.

What they have accepted is that it was unbalanced, which is rather different to "totally wrong and biased". I agree with them. I made no comment about the Jews. I made a comment about the Board of Deputies, which isn't the same at all. Representative organisations must be open to criticism, who-ever they represent. If the need arose I would not hesitate to criticise any religious order, or any other organisation. For instance I have frequently criticised the Catholic Church. Not here, but you will find me in the comment pages of the Catholic Herald where I have made many comments in the past. In fact, it was probably because of my pointed criticisms that they closed down their comment section.

While I think many of us would agree with you on this point.....that's not how these organisations see it.

So WE is giving us the benefit of his expertise into what should be offensive to Jews who are not on the BBOD. Clearly he has insight into what Jewish people would find offensive. Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Not if they criticise the organisation, or the approach it takes.
