Time to close the post on Benteke. With but a week or two before the new season is on us,have a feeling that no new £25m + striker will be coming our way soon, and that AP will continue to vary our striker options within the players he has available, with Bolasie /Mutch as cover when Wickham is inevitable injured and Campbell is out long term.

well Ranieri thinks thats a one-off and money wins in the end but point taken I guess they would have been promoted to the super premier. I wonder why the Premier League do not rule that if you buy a player you must have a good reason for not playing them as the rich clubs are just stock-piling

Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

Very encouraging ! Just imagine the furore if there are no additions up front, either of these are deployed as striker and we lose at home to WBA. Tin helmets and straps spring to mind. Keith Millen yestday in his interview after our defeat to Fulham, mentioned that Pardew and Parish are working really hard to get strikers in, no mention of course as to who they might be! I am sure Benteke will move somewhere before the start of the season, and there still must be (I believe/hope) there's a chance that might be Palace

Obvious worry is that if Sakho goes from West Ham to West Brom, then West Ham might be in for Benteke and if Berahino prefers Stoke to Palace then we will be left standing at the corner of the disco at the last chorus of the last smoochy song of the evening waiting for the "right moment" to ask for a dance. However, the problem seems to me to have been stagnation in the Striker situation - if our primary targets go elsewhere then we can get on with our secondary targets - so it is all good news as far as I can see. Notwithstanding that we will be left metaphorically laying in bed alone, wondering what would have happened if we had asked for a dance ten minutes earlier. Great post, dp. Your choice of metaphors, on the other hand, is a tad revealing I feel ;-)

Is this about the SP tweet re expectations being raised by the Mail online and others? I feel that this was a tactical comment for bargaining purposes suggesting that we're not pinning all our hopes on the mega deals being quoted in the press. But to interpret it as saying that the Benteke deal (or the Berahino deal for that matter) is dead in the water is imho reading far too much into it.

I think Pards will carry on with the ludicrous idea of Yannick through the middle. He'll be the back up to Wickham

I think Wilf would be good for that like in the 1-0 cup win over Spurs.
