Respect is the most important aspect for me, if the players respect the manager they will hit the floor running, if not could be big trouble, Cooper, Ismael don't have that, Lampard does.
I imagine Cahill will still have a few contacts at Chelsea and may well have been given the lowdown on Lampard's time there as manager. If there's a lot of negative feedback, this could rebound badly if Lampard gets the job.

There's also the case of what some fans see as a negative style of play actually works ok at Palace. I loved Sam Allardyce's time with us and thought we played some great football. I was gutted when he left. Coppell's era had some sparkling displays under Wright & Bright but also some seriously boring displays. Also what's the average time for a manager anywhere - 2 seasons?? This idea someone will come in and rebuild and stay for 5 years is unlikely. The Wengers and Fergusons are few and far between. It may just be Cooper is boring for some Swansea fans but great for us. Ismael may be a long ball Larry at Barnsley but chnage his tactics with better players. I've still got my £1 bet on Frank Lampard but right now I cannot wait for anyone to be appointed. Typical modern over entitled fan!
At this stage I'd take a Big Sam or someone just to help oversee the squad transition and keep us up, then maybe we can plan a bit better for next summer.

This is a post based just on feeling and with no justification, analysis or reasoning. Steve Cooper is a victim of just not being a sexy name or a foreign manager. If he happened to work wonders with the spanish youth setup, before going to a championship club and reaching the play-offs two seasons running, we would all be lapping it up. You say Cooper is tactically naive. DID YOU WATCH THE TWO LEGS WITH BARNSLEY??? He completely out thought, out played and comfortably did a number on the opposing manager. You say Swansea “stumbled” into the play offs. THEY FINISHED ABOVE BARNSLEY. Swansea’s budget was only two places above Barnsley’s in the championship (information taking from price of football podcast). Cooper has won a trophy with England youth and reached the play offs two seasons running. Potter couldn’t “stumble” into the play offs with swansea, despite his Scandinavian success yet he is being touted for top six jobs. Velerian Ishmeal plays long ball direct football (which I am not opposed to). So direct, it’s been quoted by some managers that he is the most direct ever. Velerian Ishmeal has never managed more than 50 games at one club. Yes, he has done OK, but the obsession with him over Cooper is laughable. Cooper is a risk 100% and it might not work out. But we are judging on a minority of Swansea fans and the hear say on forums. Yet more likeable characters who are arguably less equipped are seen to better options. Maybe you're right, but how many times did you watch Swansea last season outside of the play-offs? What is your knowledge of what he would bring to Palace? Like most people on this forum I am only going on hearsay from fans from other clubs when it comes to managers who are untested outside of the PL. Swansea fans repeatedly state on their forums that he has one simple way of playing and when it doesn't work the team doesn't win. Maybe they're wrong, but they actually watched the games. His supporters at Swansea generally seem more like sympathisers giving credit for getting to the play-offs with little backing, rather than saying how well he had the team playing or how brilliant he was at setting Swansea up tactically. Two wins from their final ten league games is stumbling into the play-offs though, whichever way you spin it. Ismael has perhaps gained more support as he has played at the highest level, has been working with a very young squad and has been playing a high pressing game which has shown to work in the PL with the right players. I don't really know much about him either though. Seriously, don't have an aneurism because people have an opinion. "This is a post based just on feeling and with no justification, analysis or reasoning." Which is pretty much what yours is, but thanks anyway

Lampard brings a `name` to Palace that does attract players and he will have a greater range of contacts etc within the game just because of who he is. The question is does this make up for his tactical deficiencies? And it's not just my opinion that this is based on : [Link] It's worth a read. Personally I'd rather steer clear of Lampard as I just don't think we have the personnel to play his style and trying to bring in and integrate lots of new players to do so seems just too much of a stretch. And, even if we did do all that his trams are too open defensively and that is a recipe for disaster for us. The more I read up on the 3 most likely candidates (Lampard, Cooper and Ismael) The more I feel we have personnel who would work in Ismael's style whilst it would also scratch the itch of being more attractive to watch.

After watching the Palace documentary I have completely faith in Parish to get it right. Nuno seemed to be a waste of space considering he hasn’t set the world alight. Wolves last season looked ordinary and Parish rightly did not want to dismantle the existing system to fit Nuno in. Any incoming manager while being allowed to bring in a number two can’t be allowed to replace the back room staff who have been loyal servants of Palace for years. Hats off to Parish for rewarding loyalty

I see Fat Frank has joined the BBC for coverage of the Euro’s. Maybe I’m reading into it but it doesn’t sound like he’s got an eye on getting a squad together for next season with Palace.

I don't need think chelsea would have won the champs league without Lampard. Through young player development he was beyond criticism People are quick to say that he has tactical naivety whichever maybe partially accurate but he seemed determined on giving young players His card was marked after a defeat to Leicester in the league, and the team admittedly did go into a free fall once it was known they were going after Tuchel (Liverpool had a similar blip and recovered) so position they were when he was sacked needs to reflect that I assume Lampard would want a higher wage than Cooper but no compensation. Wages should be performance related but also look to bring through the youth Cooper I don't really know much about but I think a lot of the stuff written about Lampard isn't justified

With regard to Cooper, this was a post from a Swansea supporter that seemed to find support. You could pretty much replace the name Cooper with Hodgson for how many people felt about our club last season... As much as I like Cooper as person I have serious concerns about him as a coach. If you ignore league position the vast majority of this season we have looked a very ordinary football team who had a unique ability to win tight games through a solid defence and ability to nick a goal.
Where we are now is not where you want to be. You cannot build a promotion season when so many results have been essential fortunate. Our 3 most recent wins Stoke, Boro and Luton we were outplayed with no sustained attacking threat relying on luck. It was inevitable when results turned the fans would turn on Cooper with what he is serving up. The issue for me is with the exception of defending there is no identity to this team and they don’t do anything particularly well. The style of play is just bizarre. The wing backs go up the field and the two strikers almost operate as wingers chasing balls in the channels. It means the middle of the pitch offers no threat as the midfield 3 are so deep they are almost defenders. The passing is poor because there is no option to play through the lines the only option is Lowe or Ayew and they are often chasing a lost cause through poor accuracy. The lack of intensity and aggression in the team is notable and it’s not a surprise to know they press the ball the least in the Championship. Everything is in front of the opposition in slow motion. We can’t build anything sustained pressure in the opposition third and now teams have worked it out with it easy to play against. Coopers substitutions have always been an issue but he has run his favourite players into the ground by not picking his moments to rotate or bring them off in favourable situations. His use of subs against Birmingham was a pathetic surrender for a draw and it came back to bite him. To not bring Moran Whittaker on until the 92 minute when we was our only bright spark in the previous two games was poor mismanagement. There’s no evidence to suggest Cooper is a forward thinking coach he’s relied heavily on the brilliance of individual players more than anything he has done. Of course they may be wrong, but the more I read comments like this the more I worry we'd just have an inferior Hodgson. For those who were happy with Roy's pragmatic approach maybe this is appealing, but it does worry me.

I was happy with Roy's pragmatic approach but he had Footballing capital for me to trust he knew what he was doing whilst Cooper does not. Completely agree with you. I can't see Cooper as anything other than an inferior Roy. Originally posted by taylors lovechild
