Interesting from ex-bank chief Mervyn King tonight.

The UK has the lowest level of savings in the G20, lower than places like Argentina or Brazil.

Why does it matter? Because it means that we are not saving but borrowing to produce investment and produce growth.

To produce any growth at all we will be borrowing ever more.

So it is a 'shoot yourself in the foot' equation.

As for brexit he says that brexiteers simply did not have any plan and do not have any idea what to do.

Those trying to shoot us are the likes of you.

New SNP leader pulls no punches over brexit.

Stephen Flynn branded Brexit as being an "unmitigated disaster" during his interview with Laura Kuenssberg.

"We're in this situation because Boris Johnson lied," he said, promoting Kuenssberg to remark that it is "quite the charge."

The SNP Westminster leader elaborated that the former prime minister had claimed his deal was "oven ready" with "no issues."

He said export issues businesses are facing and the public sector's difficulties recruiting staff are down to Brexit.

"That's why 72 per cent of people in Scotland want to rejoin the European Union. That's where Scotland's future lies."

Another delusional SNP person, there's no shortage.

There are only two things wrong with the mainly elderly non-productive brexit generation.

Everything they do, and everything they say.

They have the unfortunate advantage of being wrong, all the time.

The slide in the economy in particular is not going to get better because they say so, without any evidence.

The media now a chat room for failed conservatives, hide, squirm, avoid wriggle at the thought of having to mention the dreaded b-word.

A grotesque mis-calculation, worse than Suez.

Leave in haste, now repent at leisure.

Soon Brits will be casting envious eyes at Le Continent, as they did before, poorer and backward as we are becoming.

The three major powers in the world, the United States, China and the EU, will carve up what growth there is, as we have seen in the Truss experiment, the UK does not even have control of its own economy.

So you consider the EU as a political entity on par with being a country, or at least trying to be. I agree that's what is wants to morph onto.

If I genuinely thought the EU had the political leadership and vision to promote it as a 'major' power, I would happily rejoin tomorrow.

But ponder this. The only way the EU could ever become a major power would be by welcoming Russia into the fold. Do that, and suddenly the world is literally at the EU's feet. Energy independence, space for expansion, a whole raft of advantages and elevate it above both the US and China in an instant.

Instead, we have an EU effectively cut off from Russia. And a state of affairs that the Anglosphere have engineered.

You want the EU to be a true 'super-power' then I am all ears as to how that happens because at the moment it is effectively ham-strung.

And no amount of virtue signalling will alter that straightforward fact.

All true. Except the highlighted phrase. A prerequisite for joining the EU is a commitment to democratic principles and adherence to its ideals and standards. Russia's current political system, and Putin's leadership, means it fails those tests at every level. Maybe one day things may change, but it seems pretty unlikely. Russia sees itself as a superpower and not a member of anything. We haven't engineered that. We have, over the years, done our level best to encourage Russia to become a partner, but they have refused.

Democratic principles!!! Their laws are made by unelected commissioners. The citizens of the EU are unable to elect the people that make the laws that govern them.
What 'ideals' does the EU have while going about its protectionist, price fixing, market rigging racketeering?

They are ashamed of their own nationality, they feel that there is something disgraceful in being English and feel that it is their duty to s****** at every English institution. They would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of shop-lifting from a supermarket. They chip away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that is anti-British and anti-American while being staunchly patriotic about the undemocratic, racketeering EU.

When it's the kind of unapologetic jingoism to be found in the above that delivered us the Brexit disaster, it's hardly surprising to see it being used again, without any kind of justification, in its defence.

Thankfully it doesn't matter now because the reality has now been laid bare. We have entered the green fields of freedom and found the grass isn't so lush as promised. Indeed, there's not much there at all. When the gate reopens I think the herd will be very happy to all move back.

You are yet another who don't really know what the EU does or how it works. You just think you do. No EU Commissioner makes any laws!

I suggest, before you post any more on this, that you study the various EU institutions, their roles and responsibilities.

The SNP might be delusional over their desire for independence, but they aren't over Brexit, or Johnson's role in it.

Unelected EU Commissioners propose and frame EU law.
The EU Parliament is a charade, it has about as much real power as the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea.
