Mark Lawrenson complaining about being sacked by the BBC because he is male pale and stale. He is another in a long line of older presenters across various stations who have been let go recently by the BBC. In fairness to the BBC letting people go is nothing new and happens all the time in commercial entertainment, however for some reason whenever the BBC does it there seems to be major trauma. Mostly these people are let go because they have lost relevance to their audience. How many BBC viewers remember Mark as a player which is how he got the job in the first place and no doubt he replaced a former player back then and didn't complain about that. It's the same with DJ's, commercial radio move them on all the time the BBC does it and their are campaigns. The issue for me is not the letting go but the hiring of the replacement. This is where the BBC should be challenged, now if the replacement rejuvenates the show and the figures go up it shouldn't matter if that person is female / ethic / woke etc. Sorry Mark you were a very ordinary presenter and had a good run try and bow up with a bit of grace.

Fair play to Lawrenson for at least voicing his criticism, not many would these days but I suspect were he younger, and still seeking employment in the business, he would have to keep quiet. Quite frankly, I would claim to be fond of ML only due to his familiarity, which is a result of his longevity, beyond that I do not hail him as a 'Titan' of footballing thought nor particularly enjoy his punditry. His seeming anti-Palace stance and love in for the 'bigger' clubs wore thin with me. As for the 'wokery' complaint, I do enjoy it when someone speaks out on it. ML has actually gone further to touch upon just how it has managed to take ahold and disease corporate thinking, more than many or anybody else really has. Agree with you Badger apropos the hiring of a replacement. Unfortunately, this will be based on a desire to align and competitively pay subservience to an ideological zeitgeist as opposed to parameters such as quality of the show or common sense. Any footballer struggling for work, particularly one who is 'BAME', should declare themselves 'non-binary', 'questioning or queer' and suddenly discover a multitude of mental health problems and allergies for themselves. They'll be a shoo-in for a contract so long as, you know, they toe the line.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

The BBC have announced the appearance of a statue in 'honour' of a John Chilembwe. For some strange reason, the BBC have omitted some pertinent facts in their fulsome praise of someone who many consider to be a murdering racist. Here are some of the missing details of his activities: Chilembwe was a Baptist preacher in Nyasaland (now Malawi). In 1915 he was a leader of an insurrection against colonial rule. He sent his followers with orders to “kill all European men” and bring back the head of William Livingstone, a local plantation boss. Livingstone was decapitated with an axe – in front of his wife and two small children. Chilembwe proceeded to conduct a sermon in church next to the severed head of Livingstone, impaled on a pole.

Watched Gary Neville interview yesterday. I assumed he would talk solely about the England game. Oh no, it became a party political broadcast for the Labour Party. Not once did the presenters question his statements. He criticised bankers bonuses but didn’t mention the obscene wages his beloved Utd pay in wages. At some point he said “ someone called Liz Truss”. He then went on to mention his many businesses including hotels and development projects which are raking him in millions. Yep a real man of the people

And to think it has been suggested a statue of the Queen goes on that plinth

Yep a real man of the people I hope I am not getting confused with the Gary Neville who is currently in a protracted legal battle with HMRC as they think he's been underpaying his taxes? The same Gary Neville who publicly criticised the Tories for not cutting taxes a while ago? Surely not!

Gary Neville's support for LP in it's current mode is the equivalent of Mick Hucknall fawning over Tony Blair's election victory. All we need is Rachel Reeves to do a 'Mandelson' and 'be comfortable with the filthy rich'.

So Sad Khan would rather a statue for a murderer than one for the Queen.
