British cultural values are far closer to those of Spain than they are to pakistan so very little adaptation is required but most Brit retirees abroad will want British food. We are fortunate enough to have several overseas holidays a year and the majority of the villa owners that we rent from are British and speak the local language So if we go abroad we expect them to speak our language we don't eat their food we want an English breakfast and a roast on Sunday and bingo in the evenings, but foreigners coming to England must assimilate and speak the language and become British?

How long have you been away? English breakfast, roast beef and bingo? What else? Standing round the old Joanna singing Harry Champion songs and bear baiting on Wednesdays?

Interesting article about the feeling towards the EU from the rest of Europe since Brexit Where Alot of people predicted the demise of the EU and other countries would follow our lead, much the opposite is true, approval rating for the EU is up, they see the disaster that has ensued and political turmoil over here and dont want the same, polls even saying around 70% would vote to remain

Naturally no other country will make a move until they have seen the outcome of the UK's exit but once they have seen that there is life after Europe I expect that others will follow us out but won't make the same mistakes that we have in negotiating their own exit

I can assure you that I most certainly am not. I have spent several years living in the Philippines which as you probably know is a predominantly Christian country, mostly Catholic but with a growing number of evangelicals. There are though some large areas, particularly in Mindanao, which are predominantly Muslim, but smaller communities are found everywhere. In Cebu, where I lived, it was the Catholic Churches who made the most noise. They are quite unlike what we find here. They are often full to overflowing so broadcast to the neighbourhood. They often play loud pop music for an hour before a service just to wake people up and make them aware that they need to prepare to come to Church. It's a different culture. Here we would regard such things as an invasion of our privacy. There they believe they are doing you a favour by sharing their activities with you for free. Neighbours play karaoke at all hours, at maximum volume and bass, and simply don't understand why you might protest.
