Quite amazing that the government has no counter-inflation policy. And the Bank of England, who have the responsibility for inflation after independence, seem to think their job is just to advise the serfs how badly it is going. They could do worse than revisit Ted Heath's counter inflation policy, stopped inflation in its tracks. Property rents were back-dated to the end of a previous tenancy, businesses were released from landlords and flourished. France has clamped down on energy prices, the UK could do the same it just takes the will. The public are too soft in my opinion. Treat governments rough, the way they treat you.
18.6% inflation predicted next year, meanwhile in France, energy capped at 4 % and in little britain its 100 times more

I have more respect for someone who doesn"t keep flipping, like lizzy, to suit there argument! Its a bit like that boy at school who supported the latest winning team- was Leeds back in my day- suddenly he got the Liverpool kit!

. Of course not. If they have the knowledge, then they have answers. You wouldn’t though except a politician to answer on specialist areas, with out first consulting experts. In this case the ignorance is not so much that of the politicians but of most of us. Me included until very recently. Any politician answering these sort of questions will be a hostage to ignorance whatever they say, so will try to swerve them and accept the criticism as less harmful. Questions are thrown at MPs all the time, especially the PM and leader of the opposition. They are expected to have the answers to hand. I would expect any of them to be able to answer whether a woman can have a p**** or a man can have a Uterus without needing to consult a “specialist”, whatever their political leanings

We feck around with wind farms and our total energy output only supports 6 percent of our total energy requirements....we have to import 94 percent of our energy in its various forms. Your leftist bunch of unspeakables supported all the same anti nuclear and green energy b0llocks that has led us here. It's not just this generation of Tory buffoons and Labour loons but multiple negligent governments over generations.....the short termism of democracy kicking expensive can problems down the road for the next lot because they don't have the national will to implement expensive but long term sensible decisions for the country. Because some twit in a newspaper or nincompoop on Breakfast TV will virtue signal.....same reason fracking stalled. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Aug 2022 10.11pm)

While I have some sympathy with your last two sentences I think the idea that Heath's policy of passing laws that capped prices and wage increases worked just doesn't reflect what happened. It led to large-scale industrial unrest and eventually the fall of the government. Are you going to be happy when they cut your pension? What would you propose the government do when everyone strikes? I say that but then again these same people in charge allowed this lunacy to happen on their watch, with no one allowed to present an opposition to it (remember how the Police treated those protestors in London?) ....Anyway I'll be here eating my overly expensive popcorn watching what happens anyway. What government are we discussing? We're in the month of August when nothing ever happens in Government, Parliament or Whitehall.
