This is a great post, and an excellent summary.I hope your'e right about next week! I agree, all very sensible. It may be a load of b*llocks of course but personally I think that all sounds very plausible. I think I might say two weeks rather than next week but apart from that I agree.

You think they had an inside poolbet? "oh I bet you the benteke thread on hol will reach 200 pages before it closes" "naah it'll reach 300 easy"... guess it'd depend on what page the main man chose. Edited by Adamoc123 (29 Jul 2016 7.16pm)

My theory is this... Parish is a shrewd businessman and is 'playing the game' with his offers for Benteke. He's not the type to just agree to Liverpool's over valuation and pay over the odds just because he wants him at Palace, although it's obvious he does want him. I'd guess he made the original offer of £25m to 'test the waters' and then when they counter offered and said they wanted the £32.5m they paid for him we then increased to £27m up front with £4.5m in add ons taking the total to £31.5m, which again was rejected. Parish then walked away and concentrated on the USA tour and made a £20m offer for Berahino making Liverpool sweat as to whether we'll come back with another offer as no one else seems interested or at least willing to pay their high demands. What ever agents or media report they will not want him sitting in their bench earning £130k/week or whatever the reports suggest that just makes no sense from a business point of view. Over the past 2 weeks, since it's all gone quiet, Liverpool have identified a few new transfer targets they are after, Moura, Mario, Willems, Meyer etc. In order to fund one or two of these they will need to sell a big name player to raise funds and so when Parish comes back with one final offer next week I expect they will except and all being well we'll see Benteke holding up the mighty red n blue shirt some time next week! Parish finally gets his man for a figure between what both clubs ideally wanted but without being forced to pay the asking price! Shrewd businessman never pay full asking prices and always like to negotiate and get what they feel is 'value for money'. Watch this space... Does he, not if you have read SP's tweet from 26th July

Of course all very well and good but it assumes that Liverpool are a bunch of mugs and cannot see what tactics other teams are using in the transfer market. Add in the fact that Liverpool know how desperate we are to land a striker and it makes for an interesting stand off if that is the case. As with most things it would seem logical that they meet somewhere in the middle, Liverpool get a little less than they want and SP pays a little more than he wanted to.

Benteke still seems our best and some would say only chance to get in a class striker before the new season gets underway,as Saido is apparently staying put and another of targets, the PSG youngster, has today signed for Stam's Reading. Get the deal done, SP!!

Does anyone else check the BBC transfer gossip page for Benteke rumours first thing every morning? Been doing it for weeks now. Even before I've had a shower. It's so ingrained now, God knows what I'll do if he actually signs.

I think you may well be right - but you've just exposed SP's tactics to the world. Might have been worth keeping your theory secret until the deal is done. 😉
