I don't ever see Palace moving into big club status by remaining at Selhurst Park. I know that this isn't a popular view with many people but it's the overall reality. I can't help but have the impression that by spending big on another stand we are cementing ourselves in as an eventual yo-yo club.....Due to luck and a couple of special players we have bucked that trend recently....but I'm worried that if we stay where we are essentially our best years will always be Premiership mid table as our best result and relegation and top ten Championship as our worst. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Apr 2019 6.29pm) It's an academic argument as currently there is no viable alternative. Crystal Palace park was looked at but too many vested interests mean it would be a long fight with a doubtful outcome. So until someone comes up with a solution we're stuck where we are. I have no doubt that given the chance Parish would like to do what the small northern clubs have done which is to sell off the land in town and move to an industrial estate on the outskirts. Finding locations in the SE is very difficult as you bump into other clubs catchment areas which means they will object. Edited by Badger11 (22 Apr 2019 6.58pm)

Edited by Badger11 (22 Apr 2019 6.58pm) All true of course.....but people with good brains are paid the big bucks to supposedly come up with solutions. I don't know enough about it but just from looking from a distance Crystal Palace Park looks like the obvious solution......After that it becomes a matter of will and money. But like I say, just chewing the cud.....But I know that if some people are thinking that Selhurst Park can ever become a big club location they are mistaken......When you could stand...yeah....what was it 47 thousand for Burnely in 79.....But even with this 90 million spend on a stand Leeds of the Championship will still have a larger capacity than us. I worry that we are being cemented in. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Apr 2019 7.10pm)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave £500 million for the land Selhurst Park is on? Really? I don’t know whether to laugh or be amazed it would be that. In 2010 wasn’t it valued at £40 million, and then Lloyd’s had the embarrassment clause agreed so that if the club went completely bust Lloyd’s wouldn’t be embarrassed by the sale of land not for football. I also can’t believe that if we moved our football elsewhere and the land was wanted to turn it into mostly housing with some spaces dotted around that it wouldn’t happen and the council would insist on most of the pitch staying as a green space. Maybe if millions moved out of London or into France then I could see it as being a sensible condition that was allegedly set years and years ago before this irresponsible immigration policy, to stick on, but now? There are people in the private sector that can’t get on the property ladder and immigrants with multiple children living in flats with one bedroom.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Slightly off track but wasn’t building work supposed to start at end of this season ? Obviously that not going to be the case due to planning issues. Would be nice to be kept updated now and again though as seems to have gone quite along with the so called Americans investors .

Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Apr 2019 6.29pm) I don't think we will be worse off by redeveloping Selhurst in the short term as we need the revenue soon as possible but I totally agree that a new site is the way forward to take Palace to the level of the other big London clubs. Of course, I would like to see this happen before I die so within the next 20 years (ideally a lot less) would be good for me.

Same here, I've reached the age where you just want to stick around for the amusement value......in ten, 15 years it'll probably just be for the bemusement value.

Hate to correct a teacher stirling but it was nearly 52,000 with 10,000 locked outside! That's fine, no need to apologise for accuracy.

As I said, DELUDED. Selhurst Park cannot be sold to developers so a big housing project will not be writing CPFC any cheques for 500m plus any time soon I'm afraid. The site is almost worthless to anyone other than a football club. We all have Uncle Ron to thank for that. He applied for the pitch to be green belt (and got it accepted) so no one can EVER build on what is now the pitch. All surrounding buildings (ie the stands) have a sports and leisure order on them meaning houses will never be allowed to be built there. The site can only be used for sport or leisure. If we built a stadium away from Selhurst we would have very little money from any sale of Selhurst Park to fund it. As it can only be used as a football stadium, why don't we build a new one there, of course we would need a friendly neighbor for our home games, Fulham is not too far away, we also did Chalton a favor for the same reason. i expect they could do with the rent money.

Surely we can build the stadium in stages without moving out. I don't know the precise details but I guess a stand with similar dimensions to the one at Wigan or better Bolton could be built for the WHL and a thinner version of the main stand for the AW. A completed main stand and about 6K for the WHL plus the Holmesdale would give us around 28k while the AW was shut for a rebuild. It might even be mostly done while still open. I'd like to hear from anyone who says this could not be done. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (23 Apr 2019 5.29pm)
