He will be sold if the club deems it sensible. If not, he won't.

I'd be holding out for more than his market value
. We don't need to sell.

I agree. We sit here in SE25 watching transfer fees getting ever higher and higher and say how ridiculous it is and how lesser clubs like us can never compete. Then when we get a decent player that other clubs covet (he was one of the highest-rated players at Euro 2024 FFS) suddenly it's time for transfer fees to become 'sensible' again.

Exactly what I was saying to my son earlier today.
If clubs want our players, then they should pay big money.

Guehi is a difficult one. I'd keep him another season and sell him for less next time, but the club might see it differently.

We could do without him, unlike Eze, who must be retained.
In fact, no one else should be sold this time round. We have potential to finish much higher this season.

Agree with YT and Hrolf.

We’ll have over £100mil from Olise and Guehi but realistically, it should be a lot more. I’d suggest we may not have had Olise without a realise clause in the first instance though. To an extent, I’d welcome a bit more pace up top and aerial dominance at the back albeit we are losing two players almost certainly destined for greater things. Hope that’s the end of it however. Eze would be the most difficult to replace whereas wingers and centre backs aren’t too difficult to find (if we haven’t already).

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Evidently Newcastle are in a hurry to close the deal which tells me as a looker on that we could squeeze a bit more out of those super rich oil merchants.
£75m? Maybe. Let's see where it goes.
Our issue is obviously in the title.

Newcastle paid 40 Mio for Joelinton 5 years ago, even without Saudi money. Compared to that 60 Mio for Guehni is laughable.

I think £75m is the fee we should be asking for, it’s what van Dijk went for.And I think is a good measure to negotiate on.

£60m would make him the joint 9th most expensive defender of all time.

Ahead of him would be only Maguire, Gvardiol, Van Dijk, Fofana, Lucas Hernandez, De Ligt (twice), Dias, and Hakimi.

We'd hardly be mugging them off at £60m - with the exception of Maguire and possibly Fofana who has had horrible luck with injuries, I'd swap him for any of those other defenders at the point their transfer was made in a heart beat.

I think Guehi will eventually go, even if Palace are rightly playing hardball at present.

Sadly at the moment there doesn’t seem to be a bidding war which could have the effect of pushing the price up.

We are linked with Lacroix and Chaloboah as replacement for Guehi.
I have to say I don’t see it as a priority position.
We have Anderson, Richards and Riad with Lerma, Holding, Clyne and Ward as options.
I don’t think Richards would be too happy to be replaced by a new signing , and Glasner has already been quoted as being delighted with Riad adding that he’ll get ‘plenty of minutes’ this season.

If Holding is let go and Lerma is seen only as a midfield player I suppose you could make a case for bringing in another centre back.

I think the Bottom line is, he isn't that good, best English defender of a bad bunch

i agree. I like MG and he has been a model professional for us so i wish him well.

However, i think his height, or lack of, means he will always be a secondary CB playing around a less mobile big guy.
That will slightly limit the money we can get for him IMHO.
£60m seems a good price, even in these times of silly valuations.

The Maguire price (and maybe Fofana) can be ignored and they were both ridiculously overpriced.

Does anyone think he is as good at Van Dijk at his peak? The answer is clearly no.

Oh I think I do.

Three CBs in Glasner's system. Anderson, Riad and Richards could be a very good first choice but the drop off to Holding, Clyne and Ward in reserve is huge.

It's that drop off from our first team to our reserves that has massively cost us in recent seasons, so bridging the gap and having a more balanced squad is vital.

I actually think Holding is a decent player if he gets fit but we definitely need at least one more high class CB. Either Lacroix or Chalobah would be fine.

Guehi barely featured in Glasner’s excellent run last season and both Clyne and Lerma excelled in the 3 at the back system, arguably performing better there than in their natural positions.
From that period Holding is now fit again and we’ve added Riad so that’s two additional centre backs.
Now it may be that Glasner takes the view that Holding doesn’t suit the system and doesn’t want to use Lerma as a centre back option .
Anyway, it doesn’t matter what I think as I’m sure the club will bring someone in if Guehi departs.
I think Chalaboah is a good player, but know nothing about Lacroix.
