I’d like to have seen how Olise, Eze and Zaha would have coped with the donkeys and hatchet men that Vince had to deal with though, players are far better protected these days. Can you imagine Wilf playing in Vince’s era? One kick even these days and he was moaning and whining to the ref and he’d then go missing for long periods. Vince would get chopped, jump up and take them on again…..and again.
Also you mention the pitches, I know we’ll never know, but would those three have been able to skip over the mud like Vince did?

Football was very different back then.

If you gave Hilaire a decent pitch, a modern football and modern standards of fitness, who knows.
He might not have made it at all with modern scouting.
The trouble is that football in general was also much slower and less well coached back then.

Why do you care?

We are Palace fans. Who cares what players do when they leave?

I'm only concerned with keeping him.

Agree!!

Of topic but this is why for me, judging on just their peak, Maradona is by far the greatest player ever.

Yes, 100% agree,

I would agree but players like that (him, Messi, Ronaldo, Pele or Rogers) are at a level above ordinary mortals.

I see that Romano fella’s back with his usual tuppance worth!

Now apparently Spurs have been talking to his agent for quite a while!

Although it is technically true as his agent does represent Son and a few other Spud players.

Agents talk all the time.

If Eze has no release clause, his fate this season is up to the club. I doubt we will want to sell him after losing Olise so it would take a massive offer.
It seems unlikely to me that we would be buying players for 12 million if we were planning to sell players for a total of 110 million upwards.

I've honestly always been so stunned that this has to be a discussion point for anyone that I rarely chime in.

I'd consider Zidane to come close but still a fair way off him.

Do enjoy the opinions of others on this though, must say.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Time plays a part (Except with Pele). In the 70's & 80's Cruyff and Platini were regularly in the discussion but are now seldom mentioned.

All the players mentioned are superb, but Messi is the greatest I've seen and I had the pleasure of seeing him play live.
He's known for his dribbling and finishing, but what struck me was his football brain and awareness.
He seemed impossible to contain as he found space so easily and he seemed to know precisely which pass to pick which would be most effective for his team.

His agent can stir it as much as he likes. If there is no release clause (which I have heard more than once that there isn't) Or if there is one but it only applies to clubs currently in the CL Palace are completely in the driving seat.
Spurs are cheap. We all know this. All Palace would have to do is tell Spuds that it would take a massive offer to get him and they'll move on.
