I have to agree with this. It sounds ridiculous to make comparisons between Palace and England but when Glasner took over from Hodgson he invigorated our squad and got us playing a much more aggressive and attacking game. This reminds me of how England are playing right now and we all know what happened next. Southgate is so negative and passive when we have such a wonderful bunch of players that should be setting this tournament alight but we're going to miss out yet again. Can you imagine what Glasner would get out of this squad! Edited by BeckenhamSteve (20 Jun 2024 8.58pm)

(A team that still included Hughes and Clyne). We know the players are good enough, we see them every week. Hopefully the press now can get out of Southgate's backside, and realise we've been playing with a hand break for a while now.

A dreadful, lacklustre, lethargic performance from England. They looked totally devoid of any organisation and ideas.A dearth of movement, surrendering possession, players not playing in their best positions. I am not a highly paid manager, but it seems obvious to me playing Tripper at left back, means we have no attack down the left as he doesnt overlap and cross a ball, as he has to cut back. So whoever plays left wing has no support, Mitchell would be a better option. Why play a right back in midfield, who just walks around and gives the ball away constantly. They have obviously had to tactic to press the opposition as they think they are too good to do that.

Southgate quoting Kalvin Phillips who personified drudgery is more than worrying. I’ve concluded it’s not Southgate’s fault. He probably knows he’s sh1t but says ‘I’m on £3m a year and will press on…’ The problem is that complete idiot Mark Bullingham ceo at FA. I knew him when he was a little lackie working on the Whitbread Round the World yacht race in the 90’s. To think he know controls football appointments is utterly horrifying.

What’s the betting we see more lethargic passing back, sideways and occasionally forth in our own half, in reaction to his “We didn’t keep the ball” revelation? Edited by Eaglehamster (21 Jun 2024 6.08am)
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

I have tried to defend southgate long enough. I am all for being pragmatic and conservatively if you still have the killer instinct. but on that evidence last night we wouldnt be able to do that against anyone half decent. All of the issues arent his doing but he is the one who has to find the solutions. Playing a RB left back, a right back CM and 10 on the wing. I felt sorry for the subs he did bring on because it didnt change anything By far the worst ive seen Declan Rice play for england and i can only see wharton as the partner for him to suit his style. Make sure we win the group and go again, keep the faith (albeit I am losing it more and more every game)

I haven’t seen or heard the interview, but am I right in saying Southgate said they haven’t got a replacement or haven’t replaced Kalvin Phillips? has he forgotten about Wharton then?? The only difference is, Wharton actually passes forward as well

I'm particularly annoying with this, Shaw hasn't played since Feb, it was clear he was a monumental risk, and would have zero fitness if he recovered. We also saw Trippier play in both friendlies, and offer the same as he is offering in the tournament, zero. He may be a better player than Mitchell, but he's not a better left back. And this is the trap that former England manager have fallen into and now GS is well and truly stuck in it. Squeezing players in to roles that doesn't suit them. Seemingly oblivious to the fact that it clearly doesn't work. And don't even get be started with TAA. There are enough decent options here. Not all necessarily in the best English 11 players, but would help give more balance:
