Not sure I understand the comments about how much worse we are without Eze and Olise.

Of course we do. They are our best fecking players!

Two takes from tonight.

1) Roy needs to go, if nothing else for playing players out of position and allowing the worst team in the PL to look like Barcelona at their best once we had gone in front.

2) We need to sell either Guehi or Andersen or both and get centre half’s who can both defend and attack corners. As good as they are on the deck they are garbage in the air. I would love to see Scott Dann at his best in this team. We might as well cash in whilst we can.

We used to be a one man team with Wilf - now we are a 2 man team, so I guess we have progressed?! Would be nice to have a manager that can coach a team and FFS have some creativity on set pieces, its pointless winning corners with the current coaching.

Loved the first 75 minutes or so, then we went backwards once again and excruciating to watch once Schlupp came on, Ayew forced out on to the right and we lost the plot. Lucky to come away with 3 points and another another indictment of the need to get in a manager who doesn't look so bemused as Roy. Eze and Olise bossed it, Roy, not so much.

Not read the whole thread, but has there been any mention of losing the toss, changing ends and Sheffield Utd then taking kick off? Seemed strange to me as I thought we should have kicked off which would have stopped that 20 second goal? Or did we win the toss and changed ends - surely not?

Sick to death of the negative Roy comments. That is it!
Play him, don't play him, take him off, don't take him off, got to go, negative, positive, give it a rest for F*** Sake.

Great! 3 points. But that has just put very thin paper over very large cracks.
Roy and his negative football has to go.

It was a painful watch, drop henderson and Andersen and sack Roy. Luton smashed brighton tonight so we should atlease get something from brighton

Whatever happened to the days, when if you managed a win, no matter how lucky or turgid it may have been you went home with a smile on your face, looking forward to the next game.

I think the game was great at times but second half it seemed Hodgson must have topped the team up with Horlicks
A nice bedtime drink ...
As they seemed half asleep & not chasing the game.

So reason for lack of smile is we've just won a battle but deep down we know this has allowed General Haig , sorry Manager Hodgson Keep in command of our red & blue army !
Fix bayonets & charge ? ......
No just duck & hope they miss & go back to the trenches

A desperately needed 3 points.

Olise and Eze really were magical, apparently neither of them have injuries of note according to Hodgson which is a huge relief as they’ve jointly replaced Wilf in being the sole providers of any threat to opposition goals.

I’m trying to not come across as overly enthusiastic or vindictive here but I think all the evidence for Roy needing to go was on display. We start matches half asleep, we conceded a goal after 20 seconds, and looked most vulnerable, because we had a player out of position at RB, generally looked lacklustre and without bite or fight against one of the worst PL teams I’ve seen us play (and I say that without wishing any harm to Sheff Utd), he brought on an overweight Schlupp when our two best attacking threats went off, waited too long to replace an obviously shattered Mateta, had more players out of position by just bringing on the most defensive minded against a team we dominated all match, insanely and unnecessarily invited pressure on a single goal lead (which we nearly conceded), there’s probably more but I’m running out of steam.

A manager that does not coach attack and seemingly can’t organise a defence now is beyond useless. The modern game has left him behind and he does look like a clueless fossil being nothing but detrimental to the players and hazardous for the team. That’s not an intentional personal attack on him, it’s just football unfortunately. I couldn’t even work out the formation and game plan by the end. Ozoh looked as though he performed well despite seemingly trying to rationalise whatever bizarre instructions were given to him.

Tonight was honestly the first night I really did lose any faith I had left in Roy which is bizarre given we won. I actually left the ground with more questions than beforehand.

I’m grateful to our star players for the win, extremely grateful just for the win in fact, but I’m still very nervous and I no longer trust the manager. I spoke with a few fans before, during and after the match and I have to say I was impressed by the unity that I felt at the game. Banners etc. recently had left me concerned with toxicity but it was almost as if the fraternity was palpable amongst us even though many felt either nervous, fed up or both.

COYP something against BHA would be incredible!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Let's not get carried away!!
A welcome win but the fundamental problems of team selection, game planning and management are still there for all to see. Roy has been sleepwalking for so long I don't think it has crossed his mind that he may be part of the problem. The world of management has moved on and he is looking increasingly like a dinosaur. So, we may stuck with him and his negative style for the rest of the season. But all bets are off if this result was just a flash in the pan and we return to type with anther string of bad results.
It won't have escaped anyone's notice that teams around us are beginning to show fighting spirit and a sense of urgency in order to avoid relegation. Wish we could show that spirit and urgency on a regular basis.

Looking at the game overall we were much the better team in the first half. Sheffield United's first goal was actually a really good goal. Their second was lucky as without the deflection i think it is easily saved. The rest of the half we were creating lots of chances and all our front players were playing well.
Wilder changed the way Sheffield were playing and the second half was probably the turgid game i thought it might be from the off.
I think it was good that Roy played Hughes and Lerma in the middle as they are actual central midfielders and we looked a lot more fluent because of it.
Agree we are badly missing Doucoure.
Thought once Edouard came on we closed the game out pretty well.
