Ayew and donkey up front or ed when he’s fit. Or ideally get two new strikers

Is it just me or does anyone else think Lerma had a stinker? Loped around, off the pace + absolutely nothing going forward.

I think Ebs, too, was off it; his deft touches were not coming off. I think he needs more game time to get up to speed.

Lerma was really our only recognised midfield player. Perhaps it was too much for him and if Hughes and Schlup had started it would have got us a better result. I was disappointed with Eza again as I was in the Brighton match. Thought Chelsea were beatable tonight but we left too much room in midfield for them. Easy to say in hindsight and most fans are happy to see us not playing defensive. However it cost us tonight as did the late substitutions where Chelsea had already freshened their team which is when we should have made changes? Hopefully a win against Brentford will make us feel that we can pull out of this free fall?

Looking for positives I thought Richards had a good game and is growing into a defensive midfield role. He will never be John Stones but he won the ball in important places, dropped back into defence when needed and supported the strikers at times too. Mateta continues to be a better option than Edouard despite his limitations mainly because he works harder.

The stats say that we had more shots and more on target than Chelsea and yet we lost to yet another late goal.
Letting in late goals has cost us dear this season and is a sign of poor game management on and off the field.
Roy needs to be gone and right now because he is failing in his duties week after week.

So, you didn't see the game, saw that we had better stats, and realise we lost to a late goal. To Chelsea. Squad cost £1.1 billion v our £218 million squad. And it's the manager's fault? Try to get some perspective.

A significant loss for Brentford is Bryan Mbeumo who will be available for about 3 months.Of course they will also be without Ivan Toney and Rico Henry.Brentford have lost 6 of their last 7 matches.

Chelsea's starting line-up tonight cost in the region of £400 Mill.

Yes, Lerma needed some steel alongside. Much as Hughsie has his limitations, I'd prefer him to Richards, who I feel is a central defender and looks lost in midfield. Ozoh would be a better fit, too.

Although it wouldn't change my mind about Richards playing in the middle, I must say his crunching tackle that set up the goal was just excellent.

It was his tackle that set up the Ayew cross for the goal. Can;t see Hughes doing that

Yeah, as I said: a fantastic crunching tackle.

Maybe Hughes is not so juddering in the tackle, but he does niggle away and fight all over the park and would be a more suitable accomplice to Lerma, imo. My top choice would be Ozoh, if I'm honest; I think he has talent.

I despise this argument about money. Chelsea are bang average and were missing Palmer and Sterling, arguably their only two performers this season. Today was a massive opportunity to get something.
Wonder what my fellow fans think but the bit that really grates on me under Roy is how slow we are in attack. I get the impression he does zero attacking work with them. Even Wolves, Bournemouth etc play fast passes in transition and have players moving forwards at speed. Our players seem like they are stuck in treacle when we are attacking. I can only put that down to Roy.
Thats why I think we need to take a chance on a new (young?) Manager. I think any half decent manager could have got 4 wins from 19 games. It's the frankly boring football with no attacking threat which is getting on our nerves. We don't play to win and now we simply aren't winning.
What do we do now? Brentford is simply absolutely nailed on must win. They are missing top players and are also in a slump in form. Lose this and I'm sorry to say, Roy has to go.
As others have alluded to, 10 years in the prem and we dont have money, and we spend what we have mostly on rubbish with big wages to boot. We are so paper thin it's frightening. Most of the squad is championship quality. For those wishing us to go down- we won't do a Leicester we will sink. Andersen, Guehi, Johnstone, Eze and Olise will go, and we will be left with the duds.
10 years and never even had a crack at Europe. Even Burnley and Wolves have had European trips.
Us Palace fans are loyal, we know we don't deserve anything, but it's just so disappointing to see such turgid football week in week out, and owners who have serious money just ignore us completely. Isn't that so typical us, other clubs eg Villa get funds and choose a decent manager, and hey presto! Relegation candidates to top 4 candidates in no time.

Time's nearly up for the plate spinning circus act. The clown routine is old and predictable.
I do wonder why when the board decided PV had to go they turned to RH, and then offered him another year? So obviously a case of kicking the can down the road and not being able to get anyone else.
Hubris. The overconfidence that we'll finish 12/16th again and survive for another season. But's that's all it is, we make up the numbers.
I think it would be ok if there were some sign of progress but we are no better a side than 11 seasons ago. Given RH's statement about this being his last season one has to wonder what is in the pipeline? The possibility of relegation should wake up the board to the nature of their investment.
Brentford up next and that game should tell us more about where we are headed. I don't hold out much hope because it's too close to this game and our players look unfit after the Xmas schedule of games, possibly due to being kept on when they are tiring, as RH steadfastly refuses to use the options available to bring on fresh legs to share the load.
Same players, same formation, same tactics, same results, same platitudes, same excuses. Something needs to change.
