I can’t agree. Roy picks the team and tactics, then supposedly motivates the players. Apart from Ayew and Lerma last night the rest were a disgrace, no effort or passion, that is down to the coaches, it doesn’t matter what players you have. I think you missed out MO in your summary. There's no way I'd criticise his effort. I thought he ran his socks off. Looked well committed.

Schlupp, Mitchell, Ward, Clyne, Richards - all of them are absolutely awful with a ball at their feet. How in the name of god can we be a decent team when a chunk of our players can’t even play football. Putting Mateta on again with 5 minutes to go is beyond ridiculous I have backed Roy a lot but I really hope he leaves soon..
I’d sooner the club had scrubbed those you mention plus a couple more and given Hodgson something he could have competed properly with.

A dire and dreadful night last night. I was at my splenetic worst and readily admit that I joined in the vocal condemnation of the performance and result.Did I join in the boos ? - Absolutely. Today I have received an avalanche of messages interested in my opinion about our current plight and where I apportion culpability but I have refrained from entering that debate. Whilst Roy's comments last night did nothing for his fan club, let's all be honest he does not have much to choose from at the moment. When all our good players are fit we still have only circa 7 players who are worthy of being a regular on the team sheet. I know some think that we have some u21 who the think are very good but alas the are all unproven at EPL level and worst still they are bottom of the their EFL Trophy group 'C' having played three and lost three versus Wycombe/Wimbledon/Stevenage with a goal difference of -6. Clearly they are a long way from making it to elite football at EPL level. The problem is not really Roy but far deeper in terms of lack of 1st team investment and the sourcing of the right players in key positions. SP only interest seems to be his new stadium and his ego, which although I do accept the stadium is needed for future EPL football it will also be a bit of a white elephant if, as seems likely at the moment we may well drop in to the championship!

Not sure what your point is with the U21s, they are 14th in a league of 24 having just beaten last year's champions away. If you don't play players they will never get experience, who would you play instead of who we've got? Genuine Q?

If they were that good then clubs would queuing up for them and Roy would have them in the first team. Statistics say only 0.5% graduate to elite level football so the odds are not good!

It’s not an either/or - you can recognise the shortages in the squad whilst also recognising that Roy is not getting the best out of the squad we do have. Both are very much true IMO. I saw an interesting comparison on twitter of our U21s compared with Brighton - we finished 4th in the youth league last season, they finished 6th. We don’t have a single player from that team playing regularly in either of the top two divisions. For Brighton, Hinshelwood scored his first senior goal yesterday, Ferguson and Enciso are first team regulars, Moran is on a hugely successful loan in the championship and had a senior Ireland call up, and they’ve just given a senior debut to Baker-Boaitey. I’m almost certain a different profile of manager would see qualities they like in our academy players - Roy just doesn’t seem interested in developing young players. There’s not a chance someone like Hinshelwood would have senior minutes under Roy, which is a huge part of the problem.

Thank you for your answer. Your last sentence fully agree with, 1st bit yes, I do see that, but why? Middle bit, you know as well as every Palace fan know, he won't do that, stubborn, wrong, bitter(imo). What happens now, where do we go from now? God help us.

Another bit of U21 context; Ola-Adebomi currently has the 2nd best goals/minutes ratio of any forward since the PL2 was formed, only bettered by Folarin Balogun in 21/22. Ola-Adebomi scored 0.79 per 90 last season, which is the 5th ever best season at that level. Balogun 21/22 - 1.35 goals per 90
It’s far, far too simplistic to say ‘if they were good enough they would be playing’ - developing players who perform well at academy level is a skill, and we as a club are woeful at it.

I heard a very vociferous, irate supporter bellow out that with Mr Hodgson it is all about selecting experience over youth even when some of the senior players are disappointing game after game.
