This is the neoliberal autocracy in action, speaking the words of democracy while doing the deeds of autocracy.

Obsessions can blind people to reality. Especially one like this. The offspring of your offspring won’t suffer from this kind of obsession. They will accept the new realities, just as we have. Our parents generation had their own, which we came to accept. The world moves on. We do, the incomers do, the lines between the cultures blurs, we participate a little in their’s and they in our’s, until a homogeneous new society exists. We won’t see it, but I predict it. No one accepts terrorism. Not in the past, today or future. That’s criminality. Religious zealotry has existed in one way or another for many centuries. I dislike it intensely, whatever form it takes or whatever source it springs from. However, it’s behaviour that matters. What anyone believes is their business. It’s what they do that matters. So long as we maintain the law, without fear or favour, there is no issue. No one will annihilate our culture. It will survive and gradually be adopted by all successive generations. It’s what happens. Retention of past culture will be there too, because people honour their heritage but that’s not a threat. It’s an enrichment. Otherness is not though just these things. It’s anything which doesn’t match your personal comfort zone. For some this would include those in the LGTB community, those with alternative political views, feminists, people of colour, etc etc. Those who want to see nothing changing other than back to where it was in their youth regard those that are bringing about change they don’t like as the others. Nero fiddled while Rome burned. These days we have efficient firefighters to put out any pockets of problems and can isolate bad outbreaks so given enough time the fire will run out of fuel. Rome is safe.

What complete garbage. This has nothing to do with prosecutors v populists! Ridiculous idea that’s straight out of Trump’s playbook as a deflection from his illegal behaviour. This only has to do with the rule of law applying to everyone. For which there is a very simple solution available to every politician as to anyone else. Don’t break the law and you cannot get prosecuted.

Observation and intervention if required. No one is above the law. So long as historic enmities remain at the level of mutual distain there’s no issue. Break out into violence or threatening behaviour then that must be dealt with and both groups warned that it won’t be tolerated.
