There was an irony about our 2nd goal. Under Eddie Howe it used to be Bournemouths signature corner routine and we used it against them

Somebody may have mentioned it but I've noticed us being better with Ward at left back a couple of times. The reason seems to be he has better defensive qualities. Then, when he goes forward he's not trying to cross as he's on his weaker foot, so he plays a simple ball - either inside to Eze or Schlupp, or lays the ball off to Zaha. He then supports or goes back to defend in transition better than Mitchell. In that way he plays more to his strengths and the better ball players get the ball quicker. I've thought for a while that bombing down the wing is a bit much for Mitchell and all the running is tiring him out. He gets caught out, particularly late in games - hence our propensity to lose or draw from winning positions. Add in that Ward isn't going as far forward on the right, and Clyne tends to generally support or defend, we're more solid at the back with Ward and Clyne playing.
It's a funny one as you'd expect us to be better with a natural left footed full back. Just an observation I've made for a while now.

I agree with you completely. Mitchell is faster than Ward and after that Ward is a much better player. The amount of times TM gives the ball away is shocking.I wouldn’t have him back in the side.

That’s correct, Bournemouth had to play against eleven men!! Although Fulham were undoubtedly the better side early on, it was finished as a contest with the sending offs and it would’ve been a surprise if Fulham hadn’t run rings round us as you say

As bad as we started against Fulham people need to remember that we had actually started to get into the game and Ayew missed a great chance. The Andersen gifted them a goal and TM got sent off in a couple of minutes.

Apparently we are indebted to the ideas of goalkeeper coach Dean Kiely, capitalising on the amount of space left by Bournemouth’s corner set-up with two simple moves leading to goals.

Well speed is pretty important. Mitchell has also been involved in three goals already this season. That matches Ward's contribution over the past four seasons

Congratulations to him for working out the plans and to the players for carrying them out successfully.
Was surprised to hear the commentator on MoTD referring to "Ezzer" scoring the second. Has he changed his name?

Congratulations to David Ozoh. His first. Up or down by 2 at 70', please PV, get him on the pitch. Hard to believe that only 2 1/2 years from the u15s to PL squad.

Bit disappointing that at two up none of the youngsters got even 5 minutes
The only other new player in the EPL this weekend was also an unused sub: for Brighton, Jack Hinshelwood - grandson of Doris. That makes four generations of professional players. Pretty impressive

Evidently he was asked how his name is pronounced and he said "Ezzer".

Fair enough. Presumably no one had asked before. I must say I prefer Ezay though. It sounds less Liverpudlian.

If you haven't seen the video you should search it out as it's quite amusing. The team were stuck in front of the camera and asked how they wanted their names pronounced and when it came to Zaha's turn he had a real "this is stupid" look on his face as he gave his name.

I have just seen the video.
Actually saw Ayew smile ! "Jaw-Dan-Eye-You".

Thought I would never say this, but it was actually good to have Mariner back as ref. Some of the newer ones are not up for PL. Good too, to see Hughes and Mateta doing well when they came. Edouard however, hardly did anything right.

How long before we call him 'The ancient Mariner'?
