The problem is, with the awful standard of refereeing we are seeing, they cannot spot someone “buying” a free kick, unless his name is Zaha

Conor had already kicked the ball out of bounds by the time of the collision. Was not a penalty (unless we were Liverpool), VAR would have called it if it was. the whereabouts of the ball should be irrelevant when determining if it's a foul. The decision for the ref was whether the collision was just an accidental coming together or whether the goalie deliberately collided with him. Eddie McG's push for our pen v Blackburn in the 1989 play offs is a classic example. Most refs wouldn't have given it. Edited by palace99 (24 Feb 2022 5.41pm)

Burnley will be all over us at set pieces as it's common knowledge that we can't defend them, and they've bought that bloke to replace Wood who is about 9 feet tall. I'm no fan of tekkers but for this game he may not be a bad shout as he does defend corners etc very well. Would take a point now. Really, you'd take a point at home against Burnley who are third from bottom.....

Edited by palace99 (24 Feb 2022 5.41pm) Not all contact is a foul, and when you factor in that CG didn't even have the ball under the control, it would be an incredibly soft penalty.

It was a shocking goal to concede. One can ask questions about the defensive organisation at corners but players have to do their jobs, be aggressive and darned well get their heads to the ball. Very dramatic - there wasn't anything shocking about it - it was a great delivery and a well-timed run. If anyone, I would say Butland should be more dominant in his 6 yard box, and as a team we should have people preventing attackers getting a run on the 6-yard box from the set-piece, but my main thought watching it was that it was a cracking delivery.

Just finished watching the match via PalaceTV+ & one of the things that struck me, was no VAR. I know it was used, but, nothing like past games were it's used ever 10mins or so.
