Most of the designs in the article and elsewhere (such as the Poppy themed ones that are dotted about) seem to be as much art project as anything, so I think that wider context has to be appreciated rather than solely centering in on one demographic as the article has effectively done.

It should really come down to whether any design other than the ubiquitous and understood (by man and dog alike!) zebra crossing is a bad idea. I'm all for giving things a bit of colour and uniqueness but not if it creates safety issues!
