All of the following were either first discover or refined in the Arab world

Algebra (an Arabic word)
Zero
Cubic equations
Mathematical induction
Irrational numbers
Spherical trigonometry
Negative numbers
Double false position

Islamic architecture was instrumental to many advances in geometry.

Not watching the tennis?

You spoke of the 'Muslim world' and put forward the absurd idea that mathematics wouldn't have progressed to today's technologies without them.

Talk about a stretch.

Arabs certainly contributed, however it's absurd to suggest that mathematics required Islam.....what it required was investment towards its own ends...which came about from rich patrons.

Maths would have certainly progressed....ideas are not limited to a time and place and require a more relaxed environment for study...as we saw throughout history within various empires like Greece abd Babylon. Indeed, when the enlightenment happened in Europe, the irons were blown away from the main impediment holding science back.....which was religion.

Anyway, the origins of algebra can be traced back to the ancient Babylonians, who were not all Arabs anyway.

Tennis bores me.

Meantime, maybe I can teach you how to post properly.

That's sweet thanks.

If you are only comfortable reading opinions that you agree with then I think it's better that you read nothing and remain ill-informed.

I look great thanks.

I have the weight of historical fact on my side.

Yes, the refugee Goths were a key component in the sacking and fall of Rome.
Yes, the influx of foreign mercenaries into the legions created disloyalty and ambivalence towards the Empire.

These two factors were critical at a time when the Empire was overstretched and crumbling from within.

Let's not forget that you wrote that academic opinions on immigration as a factor on Rome's fall didn't even exist even though you had read a book which said they were a factor.

Indeed, it seems that it's you who were apparently uncomfortable with reading what you didn't agree with.

There were a number of reasons why Rome fell, but anyone who denies that an influx of migrants was not a major factor is plain wrong.

Any source on the subject should tell you that.

I have read Heather's book. I think that you will find when you have read it that it does not say what you want it to say.

There will always be different interpretations of history. I think that you know and understand this as it is clear that you are clever and able to access information. I think, however, that you are uncomfortable with ideas that don't fit with your worldview.

And of course, you have no bias whatsoever.

When you compared previous invasions and migrations to Britain with today's mass immigration, I stopped taking you seriously.

Dan mentioned the war, but he didn't get away with it.
