For me Zaha and Bolaise on each wing with Murray in the middle was very effective and great to watch. And not rocket science tactically either.

Please read posts carefully. "Looking certain for relegation" is different to All opinions welcome and as is the nature of opinions subjective. Using your math if we have continued for the next 34 games with the same ppg how many would we have had at the end of the season? COYP Originally posted by PatrickA
Saved us from almost 'certain relegation' four games into a season?

That’s why the word ‘almost’ was inserted before ‘certain relegation.’

We only won 1 of our first 12 games and were firm favourites for relegation. It was only in our 17th game, home to Watford, when a 2-1 win saw us off the bottom for the first time, accordingly we were bottom for nearly half the season. We finished 11th which was a creditable feat given the above.

Yes, so by those statistics we won only one of his first 8 games in charge so he surely contributed to the problem he later ‘rescued’ us from!

Of those 8 games, FDB was in charge for the first 4, Mr Hodgson first 3 games included fixtures against Man C and Man Utd, both away. Our first win was against Chelsea which was remarkable in the circumstances.

I believe no other team has stayed up after losing the first 7 games, and as Willo has pointed out 2 of the 3 games Ray lost were against Man City and United. Ray did a great job and to deny this seems bizarre to me There are plenty of good reasons why Roy should go, but there seems to be more and more posters that are reaching and blaming Roy for everything even if it has nothing to do with him

With the utmost respect you said, and I quote, Mr Hodgson was of course in charge for the next 8 matches. On the back of the first 4 under FDB, we lost the next 3, and 2 of those were away at Man Utd and Man C, games we certainly we were not expected to get anything from after our start to the season. Following Chelsea we lost by the single goal at Newcastle and Tottenham and drew against Everton and W.Ham before recording a home win against Stoke. Indeed 1 win in our first 12 games but one has to look at the results under Mr Hodgson in context. Edited by Willo (19 Feb 2021 10.39am)

I fondly remember the scenes after the final whistle, people hugging and laughing outside the ground afterwards, it was like VE day!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

So the fact that it took 8 games to turn it round would actually indicate that the squad, though good on paper, actually needed time to gel and take on Roy's coaching. And I agree that the squad was good, even though they had to overcome a severely underperforming striker in Benteke who scored only 3 PL goals that season.

And then there was the 1-0 win under Pulis at home to Mourinho’s Chelsea .
