From what I saw on Saturday's game, he always seemed available to pickup the second ball (which we never seemed to do), but once he had the ball he didn't seem to create much with it.

A no for me. Granted have not watched him much but from the bits I have seen I don't think he's very good.

Looks good to me.

But could he play in a midfield pair?

In the two loans he has had he has shown adaptability, he can do most of what you want in a mid fielder, he can play deep, or in a high press, he can put in a tackle, and come out with the ball, something all of our midfielders are short on. He can carry, and find a decent opening pass. He can get a goal. It’s a team game, so he would have to be part of a blend, he is not the type you have to adjust to much for so should not be much of a problem.
He might not ever be world class , but at twenty one, he already looks that he would be a good addition for a club like us, and possibly an improvement going forward.

I think it was last year when Gallagher mentioned that he was a hard-working box-to-box midfielder.
He performed this role at Charlton, but at Swansea he was deployed just behind the strikers.

Yes I was forgetting his stint at Charlton. A box to box midfielder describes him quiet well. It’s always a case of how effective they are in doing so , in his case ,he can be very effective.
Cant see him not having a decent future in the game, as long as Chelsea, would sell at a sensible price, he is one for the future.

Lee Bowyer signed him for Charlton.
Gallagher has only scored 8 goals in his career, 6 of those whilst at Charlton.

Lee, was no mean performer himself. So probably a suitable wing for a teenage performer to be to be placed under.
I feel Gallagher, has been pushed forward , up a notch, each season since Charlton, and in reaching the all round requirements placed on him has not disappointed .
Being able to retain a regular place in W Brom,s side under two very experienced managers, says a lot about a player of his age.
There is a goal in him, but as with most player’s how many he might score will always be helped by how dominating the team he plays for are.

For me he seems to be a replacement for McArthur and I think he'd do well in this role.

A similar player to Gallagher.

On the subject of Lee Bowyer, I recall receiving complimentary tickets to see Wimbledon v Charlton in a League Cup game at Selhurst Park back in the 90s.
"Bo" scored a hat-trick for Charlton as they won 5-4.John Humphrey was in the Charlton team that night.
Evening game, sparse crowd but entertaining match!

Happy days , Willo,. If he becomes as good as Bowyer, how bad would that be?. He does have similarities, even down to getting in the refs book fairly often, maybe a bit fire in the belly , as Bowyer had. But that’s never a bad thing if it’s put to good use.

Good football player, more questionable as a person. Don't forget what the likes of him and Woodgate got up to whilst at Leeds.

But back to the topic I can see Gallagher (As I think another poster has said), as a replacement for McArthur who is asked to act as a box to box midfielder despite his legs getting somewhat older.
