The irony of this is that Trossard is nothing other than a Meyer clone...which is why we should be playing him...Roy clearly doesn't think so. Put Meyer in their squad and he'd excel! Trossard scored 17 goals for Genk last season and Brighton signed him for £18 Mill.

James McCarthy has to get a full game soon ahead of Luka or Kouyate. He gives a lot more bite than both of them and his passing is a lot better. This is going to be a very very tough Xmas now for us with all these injuries but we just have to get on with it. Left back is our main problem at the moment as we have no balance down that side. I’d get Ayew back up into CF against Newcastle. He is worth 2 Benteke’s up there. Edited by EddieMac (17 Dec 2019 10.27am)

Given our predicament a point was a bonus last night but, despite our injuries, we simply did no get the basics right. Sky’s Jammie C showed a freeze frame where half our defence had their backs to a Brighton player and was leaving them acres of space on the flanks and between our lines.... even with a makeshift team... poor basics. I also don’t get why Roy persist with Kouyate. His control is poor and contribute little in attacking terms. Why the does he not give Camarasa a run when, according to other contributors, he is the most creative mid-fielder in the club we have? If he warrants a seat on the bench why not...or get rid? Finally I hope Roy gives ‘Bentechers’ a run now. He holds up well and offers a dimension we lack elsewhere and he will score...eventually!

Not sure last night deserves the level of criticism on here. We have 23 points from 17 games which means we only need around another 15 to stay up. We will look better when Townsend and Van Arnholt and Schlupp return. PS. I thought Benteke did alright last night. He needs game time.

I should've been clearer when posting that i'm talking about their playing style. Meyer has more quality and ability than Trossard..he just hasn't found the side playing a system that suits his qualities yet. If we were to play him (regularly) in his best position, at the head of a midfield 3 then we'd see him score and set up a lot more goals...but we dont play that system.

Roy and the team are making the best of a bad hand. This is paying off with our defensive record, one goal conceded now in four games. His hints about the transfer window are a recurring theme. Let's hope SP listens to him this time. The big calls will come if we sell Wilf and try to rebuild the team without him. Are we confident that SP and Roy will get it right in terms of reconstructing our attack with at least two purchases? They must be scared stiff of another blunder like Benteke....

With respect, I only provided stats to indicate the difference in the goalscoring records of Trossard and Meyer and that they are not the same player. Trossard provides a goal threat and Meyer throughout his career has not been so.Whether a change of style or position will suddenly ignite Meyer as a goalscorer is a matter for conjecture.

Blimey we were lucky to get a point last night; seeing that penno shout of theirs I don't know how VAR didn't give it. You gotta laugh, but it does make you wonder what VAR is actually for? And WTF do we do if Wilf does go in January?

Other than having Riedewald at left back it is difficult to accept injuries as an excuse for the performance. I don't think that's quite fair on the defence. Kelly is a makeshift right back who is doing his very best, Riedewald was not only out of position but also injured, so we used a midfielder for 45 minutes. Dann hasn't really played much all season and has also had injuries. Given that, i'd say the defence performed heroically. Most of Brighton's shots were from long distance and barely worried Guiata (who was very good last night, again). Hodgson admitted the tactics were wrong last night, and I think the intensity was wrong too... but there is a lot be positive about, especially how the team works for each other and never gives up.
