In reality, any team outside the top 4 with quality, standout players are mere gate keepers, it's called progression. He, as it stands, was to stay another year and progress the way he is, he will be capable of joining a top 4 team. Staying here makes sense - makes him better, makes us better with him playing and the money goes up. You can see that surely. Just like wilf.

Marc Edworthy throwing his two pence in. He probably remembers when he made the decision to leave Palace for the bright lights of Coventry! [Link] What was it about Palace players joining Coventry back in the 90s? Shaw, Salako, Edworthy.

Shaw was at Coventry for a good few years and I have a feeling Salako and Shaw were there at the same time. Edited by Willo (30 May 2019 7.04pm)

I can see it and I understand it, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it is right. The longer teams/owners go on thinking that way, the less likely they are to bridge the gap that is opening up between the top 4/6 and the rest. I want to see more equality in football which means finding a way to hold onto your best and brightest assets rather than warming them up to go play for someone else. The simple argument against this is, “well it has always been like that “ but I don’t see that as progression. At the moment the gap is getting bigger to the extent that the talk of a European super league cannot be far off becoming a reality and then all of the money will be sucked up by those teams and the rest will have no chance of holding onto decent players.

But if wilf and awb as an example want trophies/europe, which one could argue is their level and the board cannot afford to get in players that will lift us and collectively aren't good enough, what do we do? That's literally the way it is. Until the fa cap teams and demand 3 players be home grown, 4 under 25, 3 ginger, one with dyslexia, what are you to do?

Fans are becoming so feeble. No player on a long contract will be sold unless the club wants it.

Is AWB necessary for survival? In football terms I’m not sure he influences the pattern of our play that much. The strength of our defence - and in comparative terms it is a strength when you look at teams around us - is in the collective and the organisation RH brings. Would our point total have been so very different with Ward at right back? I’m not convinced - Ward is a very decent defended at this level. The case with Wilf is different - imo - just because it’s that much harder to replace goal threat in the PL and because so much of our play revolves around him as an outlet. We’d be a very different team without him - not the case with AWB

Man U have apparently bid £30m plus add ons to just over £37m. You'd have to think that wouldn't be enough to tempt us at the moment.

He's had one fine full season and the club may sell him, according to reports. Doesn't say a lot for the ambition of the club to retain home grown quality individuals.
