I Felt very smug on train home from Victoria to Haywards Heath sharing the carriage with some glum Brighton fans.
Good, solid performance and such a contrast to this time last season.
Fulham bossed the first 30 mins by effective pressing on our midfield and doubling up on Wilf (who I thought was unlucky to be booked for his first foul). They will be disappointed that they didn't score to endorse their dominance and Palace resolutely got themselves back into the game. Palace know from bitter experience how moral-sapping late first half goals are and Fulham will feel no different after Geoff Schlupp's outstanding late strike. It could even have been 0-2 from an equally sharp PVA shot which was ruled offside.
Palace dominated more and more in the second half and when Wilf scored after an outstanding counter-attack I said to my wife I was confident of 3 points - a confidence I've rarely felt in recent seasons. AWB was my motm, a strong first half defensive performance that kept Sessignon quiet was complimented by more and more attacking thrusts down the right as the game drew out. He just shaded WH who made 4/5 very good saves and didn't put a foot wrong the whole game.
Overall, Fulham found it very hard to blend their new players into an effective team against a Prem hardened and very well organised Palace.

What that rash goal saving challenge?

He must cut them out.

Ha! You could have a point. When you’re watching at the game your perspective isn’t always spot on. But almost everyone around me thought it was a stonewall pen, as did I. I will get a chance to review it on the telly later.

Well said, even Tony Gale was complimentary and wondered why this game was not shown instead of Man Utd/Leicester....mmm wonder why?

Let them play on Friday nights. It screws them up! The more Sturdays at 3 we play the better.

Review all you like , it was make the challenge or concede , he did what was required and a penalty was not given. Job done.

One interesting point that my nephew made to me at the game today and that was we didn't have many attacking options from the bench that could possibly change things.

Hennessey, Van Aanholt, Sakho, Schlupp, Tomkins, McArthur, Wan-Bissaka, Milivojevic, Townsend, Zaha, Benteke.

That starting line up was what I expected and a nice solid look about it but the bench really lacked attacking options.

Guaita, Ward, Kouyate, Sorloth, Souare, Kelly, Riedewald.

I know things will be different when we can call upon Meyer and Ayew but to have only one true forward/attacker out of 6 outfield options is remarkable. Especially when you think that Kelly can play RB/CB, that Kouyate can play CM/CB as can Riedewald!

I suppose Ward and Souare are specialist full backs but we did have both Schlupp and PvA on the pitch - surely you'd think Roy would want a greater range of options?

Unless he really doesn't rate the attacking options at his disposal. Pretty grim for the prospects of Kaikai and Lokilo if that is the case.

Sorloth is a striker, aka attacker. When Kouyate came on he showed an appetite for attack so that's two out of seven available. Guaita as sub keeper is a given, we should always have one keeper on the bench. Meyer has a reputation as an attacker so when he works his way into consideration that's three..

Are we as dee[ as we'd like? We never are and that's to be expected. I do expect to see a horses for courses approach to our subs bench with at least one GK option, three defensive options and three attacking options. Don't forget Nya could also figure when he returns from England duty.

His tackle was completely mis-timed and a very lucky boy. It wasn't 'challenge or concede', if it was outside the area then a different story but inside a foolish challenge that could have cost us. As someone has previously said, it wasn't Sakho's best game but it's the first game and he will get sharper.
Overall a good result professionally performed.

Yes. I will.

Not sure it was as clear cut as that mind. Dangerous position, true; and Sakho lunged in. Note, he didn’t get the ball so, for me, can’t be described as good defending.

Ref didn’t give it. Phew
